Description

What stood out for me in this audiobook was the transparency of its sources as it retold the Greek myths. Since its original publication by Little, Brown and Company in 1942, Edith Hamilton's Mythology has sold millions of copies throughout the world and established itself as a perennial bestseller.

No ano seguinte faria uma passagem por Leipzig e Munique (onde, juntamente com a irmã, foi das primeiras mulheres a frequentar as aulas dessa Universidade).Cronus (Saturn), father of Zeus, learned from Gaia and Uranus that one of his own children would overthrow him as he did his own father.

Since then, I’ve discovered that his thinking is not always well regarded, I don’t know enough to comment on this, but from the point of view of style I found this book by Edith Hamilton to speak plainly where I found it easier to follow the stories (as I was not continually left to connect the loose pieces or go back and connect it to another story_. Edith Hamilton's mythology succeeds like no other book in bringing to life for the modern reader the Greek, Roman and Norse myths that are the keystone of Western culture-the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present. Honestly, I enjoyed Edith’s prose, it read very well and it’s quite modern, so it has that accessibility to it. Only, it's also one of those books that really works better as a reference than as a book you sit down and read from cover to cover.More often than not she shares with us the particular poet’s version she has taken inspiration from in her retelling and any others she has borrowed from as supplementation. It is not included in promotions available to our main range products, as stated in our terms of service. Among many other things, she was partly responsible for the Fall of Troy and wholly responsible for sending Hercules insane, resulting in the murder of his wife and children. There is about a page of rambling prose in the introduction in which the words "myth", "religion" and "Nature" appear together prominently, but no coherent thesis is advanced.
