About this deal

His bandmates, Rowan and Lister, are just as compelling - Rowan is biracial and Nigerian and dealing with a hidden relationship, and Lister is dealing with alcoholism and depression.

Angel (as Fereshteh is known and presented in The Ark fandom and to friends like Juliet) starts this story preparing for the best moment of her life: The Ark concert in London. Summary: So this is apparently a well written book that deals with some heavy objects and diversity. If you’re a public person to come out can be so much worse because everyone and their grandma knows it. The band is made up of three boys, all lovable, all incredibly diverse, all young and all attractive.Angel for sure uses The Ark for escapism and for a sense of belonging, and we get to see the good, the bad, and all the in-between moments.

lol* I don’t even know how many people shipped my bestie and me during band times but since even one of our teachers shipped us. There's an unspoken connection between Angel and Jimmy, and a certain calmness to them together that I can only really describe as comforting. The discussion of fandom in this book is also so painfully accurate, and reminded of my own teenage experience in the tumblr days or yore.

But as long as we are here, the three of us, and we get to make music, and we get to live this life – playing our music in a new city every week, bringing smiles to millions of faces, leaving our mark upon the world – then everything is good, and fine, and okay.

I mean there happens a lot that’s off screen and we never get to see it but if they really feel like they’re a fraud that would make me kind of sad. The sense of community experienced by fans, too, must provide a protective shield against the rest of the world and offers those within something to hold onto amidst the destabilising throes of adolescence.God, he is an annoying person, but listening to the way he talked made me consider fast-forwarding the audiobook. Online communication has genuinely allowed me, a somewhat socially awkward person, to develop meaningful and lasting relationships with so many people and I am so incredibly grateful for that. I think it’s such a relevant story with how the world is now and how much we all consume the arts and those who create it. Alice Oseman effortlessly and joyfully brings these characters and others to life, treating her subjects - and the subject matter - with compassion and non-judgement, while discussing questions of friendship, teenage identity, fandom and online friendships. By being part of The Ark’s fandom has given her everything - her friendships, her dreams, her place in the world.

She shows the difficulties of fame, how hard it can be to meet an internet friend in real life, and how sometimes breaking up is the best choice for both people. Also Angel’s sexuality is not mentioned a great deal, but she gives hints of being asexual or bisexual, which is a refreshing change for an English girl in a YA book. From anxiety, to paranoia, to depression, to just questioning your worth, you have to put yourself first. How they allow you to share your passion and fall all in love with other people’s passion and the way people just light up when they talk about the things they love. As a Muslim girl living in the 21 st Century, I can’t convey how important it is to have a book about a Muslim teen facing normal teenage problems (questioning her sexuality, finding her identity, friendships/family problems, and fangirling over a band, meeting online friends, etc. This isn’t a story about them falling in love, so relax — sounds like something I’ve already said about Radio Silence to my friends lol. Alongside writing and drawing, Alice enjoys playing the piano semi-proficiently, Pokémon games, and purchasing too many Converse. Jimmy is a truly beautiful person inside and out but I think he had to go through a lot of shit when he came out as transgender and I’m pretty sure that only increased his anxiety. XD I’m sure one day my kid and I will have such an argument too and I can only hope that she’ll know that I love her no matter what.
