About this deal

I will admit, the analog sticks feel incredible thanks to the steel analog stick caps and hardened gates. I put it into an X-input tester and did a circle test that revealed that the left stick only reached a value of . Until this gyroscope is fixed, it’s useless to Splatoon players which accounts for a large chunk of the Nintendo Switch’s audience. The controller itself looks like another Switch Pro Controller alternative but packs a sturdy build with a premium finish. When the controller is at rest, there is no input from the analog sticks and as a game developer, I immediately knew what that was: an inner dead zone.

But what GuliKit are boasting about the most while pushing this controller, is its ‘new’ patented anti-drift technology. Its main boast is that it uses patented Hall Effect sticks instead of the standard potentiometer that determines the two axis tilts. I never feel any issues with lag, with response time in games like Super Smash Bros and Tetris Effect all feeling great. The face buttons are a little mushy and have a hollow, sometimes sticky feel, though the travel itself is decent. The other killer feature is the burst mode, which can be used as a turbo option for full auto until you press a button again, or a quick burst of taps for 20 seconds. I received it as a birthday present a couple of months back as I was looking for an extra controller for my Switch as well as something that could work on my gaming PC. Sadly though, the controllers packed into the box known as the Joy-Cons have been something of an Achilles heel for the Nintendo Switch despite its roaring success over the last few years.

It includes the Home and Screenshot buttons found on the Switch, and two additional face buttons for controlling built-in macro functionality. Update: Thanks to a very helpful comment suggesting I update the controller despite GuliKit’s own site telling me not to, the gyroscope lag on Switch is completely negligible. I took apart the controller multiple times which could leave some marks to mod the switches a bit trying out a linea vs the lubricated tactile. The sticks are ribbed on the edges and the back where your hands are dotted, giving some grip to it all. Then there are all the other little things thrown in for good measure, stuff like a no-deadzone mode, 3 levels of stick sensitivity configurable per stick on the controller side (one of which pushes diagonal readings far beyond the perimeter of the circle for the handful of games that expect those sorts of readings for proper diagonal movement), turbo mode, customizable trigger sensitivity, customizable vibration with 4 levels including disabled, the ability to swap AB/XY if for some reason you wanted to, and then Autopilot Game mode which if I understand correctly lets you record up to 10 minutes of inputs and then set them on loop.I had a feeling that this involved the centre point of the analog stick being badly calibrated, so I opened the manual again to learn how to reset the centre point of the analog stick. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. I’m aware that these other features make the controller more marketable, but having a controller that doesn’t drift and can always be re-calibrated when you need to means you can market consistency in an industry that is infamous for its lack thereof.

Moreover, you can calibrate the a number of the controller’s features like the ZL/ZR triggers’ sensitivity, vibration intensity, stick sensitivity, dead zone and swapping A-B/X-Y.From 8Bitdo, the Hori Split Pad Pro, and the incredible official Pro Controller, you can even grab an officially licensed Nintendo 64 controller for the system! So I haven't tested it wish Splatoon or with many switch games, but just wanted to chime in on experience with multiple button presses here. For example, a headphone jack and back buttons would tremendously help here and I hope to see them in GuliKit’s future controllers. Formerly the Lead Editor of Reviews at Digital Trends, he has over a decade of experience covering PC hardware. GuliKit claims that their controller will never drift, and that remains to be seen, but there are problems that we can observe now.
