According to our tests, the IdeaPad Flex 5’s display brightness reached only 200 nits which is dim compared to the mainstream laptop average of 290 nits and the Envy x360 13 (364 nits). Sure, you have the typical Microsoft Office pre-installations, but I could only find three Lenovo branded apps, as opposed to the nine HP apps I dug up on the Envy x360 13. The touchpad feels plasticky, but was still very smooth and offered little resistance as I swiped my fingers across the surface. These have built-in Dolby audio technology and sounded very sharp and clear, not the tinny sound we’re used to from laptop speakers. Thanks to the not so bright display and powerful and efficient Ryzen 4000 processor, the battery life is one more thing that the Flex 5 ticks right.
While the CPUs in the lower-end models are powerful enough to make web browsing and word processing smooth and responsive, they aren't suited for heavier multitasking. The fans also get very loud when this machine is under pressure, certainly loud enough to distract you from what you’re working on.
