About this deal

Review: “In his new book, Goodbye, Things, Fumio Sasaki shares the lessons he learned by going minimalist. For example, she recommends that you thank each and every one of your items for their service before you discard them. Minimalism as a philosophy of living is on the rise, and Milburn and Nicodemus’ book, which has rapidly become a worldwide bestseller, practises what it preaches and presents minimalism in a simple, minimalist way.

The book is a room-by-room guide to decluttering your home and whilst I was excited to give it a read I couldn’t help but wonder if I would personally get anything from the book given that I see my home as essentially done in terms of decluttering and minimising. He says that the time taken to get it out of the cupboard and plug it in isn’t as annoying as you think but I’m afraid I disagree there. This approach is accessible and manageable for wannabe minimalists like myself, who still have to contend with four-season clothing and energetic children with many accoutrements. Becker seeks to help parents change their thinking and that of their children so that they can lead happier lives with less stress and stuff — he encourages you to include your children in the entire process! This book aims to help families explore how they can create stronger bonds and live happier lives through gentle minimalism and simple living practices. But, actually, if you’re getting rid of a considerable amount of stuff, especially stuff that might hold some sentimental value, this can be a good way of getting rid of things without feeling too sad or guilty about it. The majority of the book explains the standard why minimalism is good for you and how to declutter your house.

You’ll also get to know how paper, cosmetics, “fast” fashion, technology, and electronics harm the planet. I especially enjoyed how the book, beyond the major figures, highlights the diverse and crucial voices that have made this genre what it is today. But, as this book reveals, minimalism was much more than just a classical phenomenon; it revolutionized everything from avant-garde to psychedelic counterculture.
