The Fender Mustang Micro is a Headphone Amplifier which packs 12 amp models from the Mustang GTX into a unit small enough to take anywhere. A pocket-friendly guitar amplifier with a wealth of superb amp models and onboard effects, the Mustang Micro is a phenomenal practice tool that will both make and enable you want to play more – any time, anywhere you want. In keeping with Fender marketing’s propensity to try to brand everything in sight, we meet the Fender Mustang Micro Amp, a device with a name larger than the device itself. When these are selected, the LED beside the amp setting lights up white, red, green and blue respectively – a handy way to know which setting you are on. The unit has a simple layout, with one large dial mounted on the front to control master volume, and a series of +/- buttons along the side of the unit for selecting amp type, EQ, effects, and a modify button for adjusting one select parameter of each effect.

It allows you to cycle between 12 amp sounds and 12 effects combinations, which is perfect for silent practice. Mustang Micro supports Bluetooth audio streaming from your mobile device, tablet or computer and features automatic audio/visual sync — making it a great tool for practicing and learning songs with. A little post Micro EQ was required to match the tone of plugging directly into the guitar, but it was worth it for the easy access to analog effects. The Bluetooth element is great, but bear in mind that's for streaming a backing track not using bt headphones, you have to plug the headphones in. I like the rush of air being moved by a pair of 4x12 cabs, but have the luxury of being able to do so.Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. The unit lets you jam along with tunes from your music library or streaming service through Bluetooth audio from your mobile device, tablet or computer. The EFFECTS switch allows the player to choose from a number of effect presets, including chorus/reverb, tremolo/reverb, and various delay and reverb combinations.

However if your instrument has a side mounted jack like my Gretsch, or Les Pauls or PRSs, then developing some muscle memory for what switches do what is important if you want to make quick changes, or get a short ¼ F-M extension and attach the device somewhere you can see it. And you can play along to your favourite tracks or instructional videos using the built-in Bluetooth audio connection. There are also Marshall Super Lead and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier settings, with your high-gain options inspired by a Friedman BE-100, EVH 5150, and Bogner Uberschall heads.

BTW, I’ve been frequently using a standard set that comes with almost every smartphone and even so the results are more than satisfactory. Record your best-loved guitar tones and the Bluetooth audio stream simultaneously using Mustang Micro’s USB-C output. It's very portable, USB-C rechargeable (so you don't have to take another cable or batter with you) and all you need to do is plug it into the guitar as well as some headphone, turn it on and you're good to go. The Fender Mustang Micro is a headphone guitar amp that sells itself on the simple premise that you can play whatever, whenever you like and no one else can hear it but you. Thankfully what my, what my, um, camera here has, it has a headphone and, uh, align in input jacket.

The Fender Mustang Micro is a complete personal guitar amplifier featuring a wide selection of tones from the wildly popular Mustang series amps. It come close for such a small device, and the recording element via a computer is quality, but you aren't going to replace your Twin with this for anything beyond quiet practice sessions.This dongle comes very close to the real thing, so much so that I’d wager you couldn’t tell the difference in the middle of a mix.
