p.55 – As Keeley tells Roy’s niece Phoebe: “Problems are like mushrooms. The longer you leave them in the dark, the bigger they get.” And remember Ted’s soliloquy during his darts match against Rupert reminding us to be ‘curious, not judgmental’. Many research studies have proven that being curious leads to emotional well-being, better relationships, and higher levels of achievement. p.16 – He believed that it was not about winning or losing, rather about the effort it took in trying to be the best version of yourself that you could possibly be. “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming” (Wooden, 1948). I personally didn’t want to play a buffoon, or use our time and our scripts to humanise a bastard – that had been done,” Sudeikis explains in his deep, rich, placelessly American accent. “Ted, the character: he’s looking for the best parts of life.” The more that I watch the show, the more I hear Ted speaking to me and showing me what a good leader is. I have found myself trying to remember quotes or writing down some of the management lessons I gleaned from the show. Without giving away too much, here are 15 lessons I learned from Ted:

Clubbing together ... Brendan Hunt, Cristo Fernández and Jason Sudeikis in Ted Lasso. Photograph: Colin Hutton/Apple It helps that, by writing and creating the series, Sudeikis gets to be a bastard through other outlets – hardman-with-a-yoga addiction Roy Kent, or steely womanboss Rebecca Welton. “With this show – being a writer, creator, and being on set for most scenes – those parts of me play all the parts in the show: I get to try to harmonise with all these other voices, which has always been my favourite thing to do. That’s the only reason I got to stay at SNL: not because of the sketches I was writing, but, because those first couple of years, I enjoyed rewriting with people – finding someone with that specific voice and being like: ‘you try this, you try that’. It’s a fun way to exercise, and exorcise, your demons.”One of the reasons why this show has captivated the imagination of fans lies in its potential for practical application in everyday life. Ted Lasso’s coaching approach and his outlook on life itself are rooted in empathy, kindness, and personal development. Yet more overlap between the character and the actor playing him: at the season two premiere last week, Sudeikis showed up in a “Jadon & Marcus & Bukayo” shirt in support of the England players who had experienced racist abuse following the team’s Euro 2020 final loss – a total Lasso move. Otterson, Joe (April 20, 2022). "Jason Sudeikis Sets Ted Lasso Comedy Series at Apple". Variety . Retrieved March 7, 2023. Like many people in Ted Lasso’s life, I completely underestimated his ability and judged him without being curious enough to get to know him. After watching the series a few times (some episodes more than 5 times at this point) in the past month and a half, I have become a fan of the Lasso Way and all that it stands for.

Beyond its enthralling narrative and captivating characters, Ted Lasso has left an indelible imprint on popular culture. Garnering critical acclaim, the show has become a cultural phenomenon, resonating across diverse demographics. The book is written by one of the characters in the show who joins the Richmond FC as their biographer. During the time that the author is in the show, he experiences a new way of life that he hasn’t seen anywhere. I truly love Jason Sudeikis and think he was one of the most underrated comedic writers and actors of the last 10-15 years. So I beyond excited when I heard this show was coming out 2 or 3 years ago or whatever.

Author

He is, in particular, impressed by the management style of the protagonist of the show, Ted Lasso. In the final episode of the finale, the author presents the book to Ted who changes its title from The Ted Lasso Way to The Richmond Way. p.65 – “Woman up!” Ted tells Jamie. “I think you mean, ‘Man up!’ Jamie replies. Coach Beard and Ted shake their heads. No, Ted meant what he said. “You’ve been manning up for a while now,” he tells him. “And look where that’s got you!”

p.59 – Re-parenting is learning how to be very kind to ourselves, treating and loving ourselves like the very best, kindest, most attentive parent ever would. Be curious, not judgmental.” – Ted uses this quote from Walt Whitman to express his frustration that most people in his life have second-guessed his ability without getting to know him. They simply judged him without understanding him. Treat people with respect– This means to treat everyone from the kit man (water boy) to the Chairman of the Board with the same respect; every person has value.Be a mentor – Ted had a great quote for his captain, “You know how they say youth is wasted on the young, I say don’t let the wisdom of age be wasted on you.” He was encouraging him to be a mentor for one of the junior players and share his experiences. Lennon, Mads (August 15, 2020). "Ted Lasso Season 1, Episode 3 recap: Trent Crimm from The Independent". FanSided . Retrieved March 8, 2023. Obstacles can be opportunities – Take difficult situations and make them learning experiences so it is not so bad the next time around.

Trent’s cute little gay ass is about to name his book The Lasso Way and it’s just too perfect he is so special to me #tedlasso - @theolasso Ted is the quintessential leader who mixes optimism, motivation, humor, vulnerability, and love into a powerful tool to accomplish his goal of making everyone a better version of themselves.p.22 – “Guys have underestimated me my entire life, and for years, I never understood why,” Ted said matter-of-factly. “It used to bother me. But then one day I was driving my little boy to school, and I saw this quote by Walt Whitman painted on a wall there, it said: ‘Be curious, not judgemental.’ I like that.” Numerous viewers have eagerly embraced these principles, seeking to integrate them into their own lives. Even in the absence of a dedicated book on ‘The Richmond Way,’ fans can draw inspiration from Ted Lasso’s philosophy and embody its fundamental values. Solidarity ... Sudeikis in support of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka at the premiere of the second season of Ted Lasso. Photograph: Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP Be understanding – Communicating with his players allows Ted to understand them and what they are experiencing. Whether it is a player’s first time away from home or a veteran dealing with losing a step or two, having that perspective allows a manager to have empathy. After Trent Crimm was fired from The Independent, and he became Trent Crimm, Independent, his focus shifted from berating Ted Lasso with questions to observing the team’s every move and becoming very invested in their success as he writes a book about AFC Richmond. While we know the journalist has been working on this project throughout Season 3 of Ted Lasso, we have absolutely no idea what it will be called. When I asked James Lance, who plays the reporter in the show, about this, he would only give a small hint about what his character is working on. However, after the latest episode of Ted Lasso, some of us are convinced we have figured out what Crimm will call his book. James Lance’s Hint About The Title Of Trent Crimm’s Book
