As I started to read his autobiography, I realised he had a background in acting covering such a variety of characters in his repertoire that little was beyond him and his ability to perform whatever role was presented. From Open All Hours to The Darling Buds of May to his starring roles as Detective Inspector Frost in A Touch of Frost and, of course, Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. He has always been a very private man so was intrigued to read about his early life and really wanted to find out more about Only fools and horses, one of my all time favourite shows. David Jason's gift for writing is rare among college graduates, and the fact that he never attended even drama school makes this book that much more exceptional. Jason has won four British Academy Television Awards (BAFTAs), (1988, 1991, 1997, 2003), four British Comedy Awards (1990, 1992, 1997, 2001) and seven National Television Awards (1996 twice, 1997, 2001 twice, 2002 and 2011).

Autobiographies can have a tendency to become warts and all tell all slaggng off off other actors so it's nice to read many nice things said about Jason's fellow professionals. David Jason: My Life On Screen is a revealing and highly personal series in which Sir David visits locations as far apart as London, Yorkshire and the Kent countryside to explore how some of his greatest roles came about - from Pop Larkin in The Darling Buds Of May and DCI Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost, to Del Boy Trotter in Only Fools And Horses.

Born the son of a Billingsgate market porter at the height of the Second World War, David Jason spent his early life dodging bombs and bullies, both with impish good timing. David Jason : My Life is the name of the unique autobiography by Britain’s best-loved actor and our very own Derek “Del-Boy” Trotter. Jason appeared in the BBC comedy series Hugh and I in 1967, which starred Hugh Lloyd and Terry Scott as two friends who lived together in South London. Seldom have I had the good fortune to read (listen) to such an entertaining, amusing and well written autobiography.

and regales the reader with stories of treading the boards, courting and his day job as an electrician. Through a natural talent for making people laugh, found himself working with the leading lights of British comedy in the 1960s and ’70s: Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Bob Monkhouse and Ronnie Barker. It wasn't until 1981, kitted out with a sheepskin jacket, a flat cap, and a clapped-out Reliant Regal, that David found the part that would capture the nation's hearts: the beloved Derek `Del Boy' Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. Three-part documentary series where Sir David Jason embarks on a journey across Britain to explore his career in television. I do believe this man is one of the comedic backbones of English humour, alongside greats such as Michael Plain, John Cleese, Ronnie Barker.
