Description

Many coolers, air coolers in particular, fail to keep the i9-12900K under TJ max when power limits are removed in workloads like Cinebench and OCCT when I’ve tested them, including many coolers I previously considered top of the line. My only nits are with the fan splitter cable, its black not white and the fan brackets are silver not white. The Phantom Spirit 120 SE is a stylish and high-performing cooler with a sleek design featuring a large aluminum heatsink, all-black fans, and a black top radiator.

It has two 120mm fans that ensure your computer stays cool and runs smoothly, and it's compatible with various types of processors. With only changing my CPU cooling, I was able to increase every benchmark I've run in both single and multicore. The Phantom Spirit 120 SE looks a lot like the Peerless Assassin 120 SE, with a cool and stylish design. You can reduce some of the noise by having the pull fan on different fan header with 5-10% less PWM vs the push fan. Its brown exterior and black ink are far from flashy, but what’s here is all about utility, and as we’ll see soon in testing, that goes deepter than just the packaging. Thermalright also did away with the decorative top-plate for the two fin-stacks, lowering the Z-height of the cooler to 155 mm, compared to 157 mm on the original.

AMD has weird issue where the old heatsink that's already installed is glued to the CPU because of the thermal paste, so be careful when trying to remove the old heatsink. I think a fan like the TL-B12 which is a very close match to the BioniX P120 on paper should be a solid upgrade. But more recently I've also read it might not be that simple, particularly for an AM4 cooler that has it's own backplate.

The closely related Peerless Assassin 120 SE provides a black color scheme with a less refined top surface.

Math Geek said:in the very limited couple days we've had with am5, i've not seen anything to say otherwise. The Peerless Assassin 120 SE arrives in a medium-sized brown cardboard box, with cardboard and molded foam for protection.Today, the company revealed the Peerless Assassin 120 Black, which is a new dual-tower CPU cooler that's just 157 mm tall.
