Description

Minnie Driver has held many occupations: she’s been an actress, a musician, and even a purveyor of jeans. But now, the actress adds one more title to her résumé: memoirist. In Driver’s new book, Managing Expectations, she takes readers along for the ride, detailing her at-times unconventional upbringing in England, her journey to motherhood, and her winding career path, from the first big film she booked to the moment she was cast in what would become an Oscar-nominated role in Good Will Hunting (without naming names of the screenwriters—one of whom she was involved in a public relationship with for some time after the film was released in 1997). She shares the story of her life in ten honest, emotional, and erudite essays, charmingly proving that she was born to be a storyteller, no matter the medium. A MARIE CLAIRE BEST MEMOIR OF THE YEAR - A USA TODAY MUST READ BOOK - A W MAGAZINE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK - A SHEREADS BEST MEMOIR OF THE SUMMER Will you write more books? I’m asking because I’m curious, but also because I’m pleading for you to write more. As one of the key characters in the 1995 film “Circle of Friends,” in which she co-starred with Chris O’Donnell, she gained a large number of fans at the time of its release. This event was a significant turning point in her professional life. Her acting debut was in the James Bond film Golden Eye, which was released the same year. In the years that followed, she was cast in parts within the critically acclaimed films “Sleepers” and “Grosse Pointe Blank.” In the year 2001, Minnie Driver and Josh Brolin broke up their engagement. She is presently engaged to Addison O’Dea, and the wedding is set to take place in 2019. Henry Story Driver, who was born on September 5th, 2008, is another member of the Driver family. Career

Its a privilege to experience firsthand just how ‘smart-as-a-whip-articulate’ Minnie Driver is to boot!!! As well as running her own production company – which she called Huge Fan, because that’s what Hollywood phonies always say to her – Driver has been working on a podcast called Minnie Questions, in which she interviews a range of creative figures. Some are her friends: the artist and director Sam Taylor-Johnson, the playwright Jeremy O Harris, the Foo Fighter Dave Grohl. She asks them each the same things (from the Proust questionnaire), “and there are only seven questions, so there’s no tarting around with, what are you promoting or what are your views on X, Y and Z? It’s pretty disciplined, which I like, because there’s not enough discipline these days.”Driver's television debut was in a 1991 TV advertisement for Right Guard deodorant. [15] Driver also made her stage debut in 1991, supplementing her income by performing as a jazz vocalist and guitarist. [16] In 1993 she featured in an episode of Maigret, alongside Michael Gambon and Michael Sheen. Also in 1993, she played alongside Jonathan Pryce in the mini-series, Mr Wroe's Virgins. She appeared in The Day Today, on British television, with comedian Steve Coogan and for satirist Armando Iannucci, and had small parts in Casualty, The House of Eliott, Lovejoy and Peak Practice. PJ Morton’s cover of “How Deep Is Your Love.” It is, dare I say it, as good as the Bee Gees’s version. It’s truly beautiful, so vibey and incredible. They don’t ask men to stand in ditches, though. Refreshingly free of the self-mythologising therapy gush that makes most thespy autobiographies just a bore, it’s a collection of bittersweet essays, in which the 52-year-old star of 1990s classics Good Will Hunting and Grosse Point Blank repeatedly rolls her eyes at the “absurdity” of a life spent precariously balanced between pain and privilege. Minnie Driver had an appearance in the 2014-2015 season of the NBC sitcom “About a Boy,” which has just just been shown. In addition, she had a role in the movie titled “The Crash,” which was released in 2017 and directed by Aram Rappaport. Trivia & Unknown Facts Her performance as Carlotta in the film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera” from 2004 got her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress from both the London Film Critics Circle Award and the Satellite Award.

Just before the release of her first book, Driver spoke to W over the phone, calling from her home in Malibu after a morning of surfing in the Pacific Ocean. She got into her writing process, her favorite authors, and whether or not she’ll write some more books in the future. She giggles. I am reminded of something she said on Jay Rayner’s Out To Lunch podcast, about driving down Sunset Boulevard with her sister, Kate, a film producer, looking up at a film poster of three male film stars and realising that, between them, “we had shagged the whole billboard”. While she says “the 50 films and television shows on my IMDb are literally the 50 yeses, out of thousands of nos,” it must feel good to be allowed to push in so many directions? What is one’s benchmark for success? It might be someone else’s idea of failure that I didn’t stay being a huge movie star Driver starts and ends the memoir with her mother, but that is a mistake because the woman comes across as more of a negative in the actress's life. Her father grows to be a more practical empowering figure but only is given a minor role.
