DC Direct first arrived at the idea of creating new action figures in the style and spirit of the classic Batman: The Animated Series after seeing the continued demand for their bestselling action figures based on the series. Catwoman: Her pose is better than Batman’s, but kind of awkward. I would have liked it more had she had her hand on her hip, exuding grace, confidence, and a bit of danger. This just looks like she’s saying “rawr!”

DC Direct fans rejoice, Batman: The Adventures Continue has arrived! At last, fans are finally able to re-immerse themselves in the iconic Batman animated world with all new action figures, carrying on a much beloved part of DC’s rich history. The first Batman Beyond action figure line made a similar mistake to The Batman Animated series toy lines. Their figures showcased many different versions of Batman Beyond, but didn’t include many of the other characters from the series. The first set included designs like Manta Racer Batman, Lightning Storm Batman, Thunderwhip Batman, and Hydro Force Batman. Robin: Like Combat Belt Batman, the Robin figure is perfect as-is. Fantastic sculpt and gorgeous colors, and I love the look of his hair and that smile. The glider accessory is big, bright, and a ton of fun too. Great, great Robin figure. Ultimate Batman: Even when the batteries die and the eyes and Batsymbol no longer light up, this will still be a stunning, no-frills Batman figure. Can’t beat that, can you? Action Figures 10-1 Batmobile: Sleek and classic, this is about as perfect an Animated Batmobile as you could hope for. I only like this design, without full on loving it, as there are other Batmobiles I prefer over this one. Still, it’s awesome and perfectly fits the aesthetic of the show.Hasbro also released figures for the direct to video Batman Beyond movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The figures included in this set were Golden Armor Batman, Gotham Defender Batman, Gotham Knight Batman, Rapid Switch Bruce Wayne and Arkham Assault Joker. Hoverbat: A little over-designed for a vehicle that should be relatively simple, I like this more because of the art on the box. Two-Face looks so mad to have been captured, while Batman has an expression of annoyance as if he missed his exit on the freeway. Amazing. The Batman: The Animated Series action figures did so well for DC Collectibles that they released more figures in 2016. In January they unveiled a small grouping of figures, which included Robin and the Joker. These two would mark the last of the figures that have been currently released through DC Collectibles, but there are still many more figures to come. Action figures for Batman: The Animated Series were released immediately after the premiere of the show in 1992. The toys were produced by Kenner. During the show’s time on air, Kenner released four series of action figures ( Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4) along with vehicles and playlets.

Batboat: That there isn’t a larger Batboat toy is weird, so having this included in miniature kind of makes up for that. Kind of. Batcycle: Usually I think miniature motorcycle figures are weird, because they look strange without a rider. The Batcycle design is so sleek that it doesn’t really matter, though, so this looks cool. Infrared Batman: Love the look of the suit itself, as the deep red as kind of an update of the Batman: The Movie poster (which I think I’ve said about another figure in another line). Batcave Command Central: While playsets can be relatively hit or miss, this one definitely hits. Multiple levels of play, including facades for Wayne Manor, the Batcave, and the exit for the Batmobile, and it even looks like it can fold up for ease of storage and transportation. Can’t go wrong with any of that. After the Mission Masters set Hasbro started making figures for the Batman: The Animated Series spin-off TV show, Batman Beyond. A Batman related show set in the future with even darker themes than it’s parent show. Batman Beyond starred a new Batman, Terry McGinnis, who was mentored by an aging Bruce Wayne. What happened after the show ended…?” wonders Fletcher. “All of these characters had been created, like Deathstroke, Red Hood and, most recently, the Batman Who Laughs. So we said, ‘This could be a cool way to continue the line and really create something fans would want to own.’” The company then created a set to coincide with the animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. At that point though, it felt as if the overall toy line was starting to lose steam as the company was using basically the same mold for many of their Batman: The Animated Series figures especially when it came to the principal character, Batman.

Combat Belt Batman: The top three are going to be practically interchangeable. This Batman has a perfect suit, tons of cool accessories, and a clean, classic paint job. I honestly can’t think of a single thing I’d change.

Batman: A solid, good looking Batman. Very, very basic, though, when most of the other figures look much more interesting. When I saw Ty’s first models , they were very much like the original models on the series that Bruce Timm did,” he shares. “Bruce would always draw his models in action poses, and he would draw a character in motion first before he did the stiff turnaround. That is what Ty did for the new characters, such as Red Hood.” Clayface: Ol’ Matt Hagen here is big, lumpy, and kind of gross, as he should be. Excellent sculpt, and the firing mace hand is just flat-out awesome. While as a kid we would understandably gravitate more toward the hero figures, I think as adults we can appreciate a truly well-made villain all the more. Especially when it’s as cool as Clayface here.

Of course, the action figures are only one part of this. For the past few months, fans have been getting all-new adventures set within the world of Batman: The Animated Series in the Batman: The Adventures Continue digital first series, written by Dini and Alan Burnett and drawn by none other than Templeton.
