Matcha is extremely popular in coffee shops and is known around the world for its mindfulness properties, so it seemed a natural fit for us to pair the earthy notes and natural caffeine with our premium Tia Maria flavour. Closing Thoughts

Tia Maria is made from premium Jamaican coffee beans and a blend of Jamaican rum, vanilla, and sugar. To make the rim, mix two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of matcha powder in a dish. Chill your glass for 10 minutes in the freezer, or until you have moisture on the glass. Dip the glass rim into the mix of matcha powder and sugar. The drink is 17% volume so not strong, and therefore nice to sip slowly without being overpowering. I will definitely be finishing off this bottle and purchasing some more; I’m excited to have expanded my drinking repertoire a little, even though I genuinely thought I was going to hate it initially! I still don’t like the strange green colour, and discovered that it left my tongue green tinted too but I can overlook that for the taste. I’ll be recommending people try it before writing it off due to the name as to be honest, saying it is flavoured with matcha doesn’t suggest it is going to be very tasty. This is however a drink to get to know, and if you like cream liqueurs you won’t be disappointed. It would be a particularly good Mother’s Day gift for any lover of cream liqueur based drinks. The result is a smooth and sweet liqueur that pairs perfectly with a variety of spirits and mixers. Tia Maria is no doubt a brand you will definitely have heard of before, it is globally renowned for its coffee liqueur, so it makes a lot of sense it’s the brand that has managed to incorporate the popular matcha flavour into a stable tea liqueur. I really can’t quite pin down what I think it tastes like, but one moment it tasted like sweets, the next mildly like parma violets. Having looked up more about the drink, the flavours of matcha green tea are herbal and floral which is probably why I was getting those hints of flavour. There is definitely a note of vanilla too, which all lends itself to a tasty creamy drink that goes down very smoothly.

Of all the brands making a big push into new markets, the last I would have thought of was Tia Maria, a coffee liqueur developed in Jamaica in the 1940s. The brand was recently sold to Saronno, and it’s currently made in Italy. Recently the brand added two new expressions, one built around matcha tea of all things, and the other a ready-to-drink coffee concoction. Tia Maria, the world-famous coffee liqueur, today announces the launch of its first addition to its signature drinks portfolio – Tia Maria Matcha cream. We know our customers love the classic Tia Maria taste, so we wanted to bring them something truly unique while injecting new excitement into the brand. With the launch we want to continue to reach a younger consumer base and meet new taste preferences along the way with our new drink creations, and we’re looking forward to introducing the concept of a mindful Matcha ritual through Tia Maria. The iconic Brandy Alexander is said to have been named after Troy Alexander, a bartender at Rectors, a famous New York City restaurant. He is said to have created the drink in the early 20th century. Although the traditional recipe calls for the colorless Creme de Cacao, it is even better with the elegant kiss of Tia Maria. Ingredients Tia Maria is relatively light in alcohol (20% ABV), pairs beautifully with anything creamy, and makes a fabulous dessert substitute or after-dinner drink. It also pairs beautifully with vodka, increasing potency without detracting from its sweet roasted coffee bean flavor. As a grainy powder with lots of flavour, matcha usually works best in drinks with texture, like sours made with egg white or aquafaba, or in creamy drinks that use a whole egg like flips or cream like an Alexander. Bringing a coffee shop taste to home bars across the UK, Tia Maria Matcha is a uniquely fresh and naturally indulgent cream liqueur with the distinctive flavours of Japanese green Matcha tea extract, providing a floral and refreshing twist with a smooth finish. We recently got the entire lineup of Tia Maria products to taste, which we will attend to presently.

Our latest innovation is testament to the essence of the brand and we can’t wait for our customers to raise a glass of our new Tia Maria Matcha with us.” This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. How to make: SHAKE both ingredients with ice. Strain into chilled glass with matcha rim already in place. Tia Maria Matcha will be available in 700ml bottles and will be launching in major supermarkets this summer. The bottle is white with the distinctive Tia Maria logo in the usual font however the colours of the label are much more natural, in muted greys and greens. The glass bottle has a tapered design and screw lid, so nice to hold and pour. We drank the match Tia Maria neat but it would probably be even tastier over ice. I’ve also seen that you can mix it with vodka, to take it up a level.

As well as the iconic original recipe, you'll also discover Tia Maria's newly launched matcha flavour here at House of Malt. Mixing naturally caffeinated Japanese matcha tea with indulgent cream, this green Tia Maria has a beautiful pastel colour and a unique, botanical taste you don't want to miss.
