Dora is a nightmare daughter who truly believes she knows everything, hates and abuses everyone and leaves obscene messages on her mother's phone. I still don't understand how a book can be a 'No1 Besteller' before it has even been published and placed on shelves. So it might bet better towards the end, but I skipped ahead quite a bit to see if it improves, and it doesn't. But soon she started to irritate me as she really does have the blinkers on when it comes to her family and becomes increasingly self-centred. The character of Peter was particularly well portrayed although once the point had been made that he was a flambouyant, precocious, self-deluded and barely believable teenager, he did (in common with the other main characters) become rather repetitive. The story is told in diary form by Mo, the matriarch of the family and her two teenage children, Dora and Peter. I did wonder whether Dawn had decided to make Peter a rather unusual teenager to provide some respite from Dora’s angst, or she would have had two angst-ridden teenagers on her hands which would probably be just a bit too much for most readers.

The storyline was in complete disarray; the storyline leading up to the 'climatic' moments were not introduced into the novel until past midway. I am not usually interested in books in the comedy genre, although I do enjoy human interest stories. She’s about to do something unusually wild and selfish, which will leave the entire family teetering on the edge of a precipice.

Peter is channelling Oscar Wilde in all his gloriousness and as such his narrative reads like that of a much older person with a wonderful command of the English language. In short, I found A Tiny Bit Marvellous to be wildly entertaining, extremely heartfelt, and fine diversion. We don't get to know Husband's name until the end of the book when he is finally appreciated for the loving, caring, doting husband that he is. Not so much a narrated story as a series of diary extracts from each of the characters where we learn of their highs and lows, faults and failings, talents, hopes and dreams. Her husband whose inner self we see little of as, well he's just 'Dad', then there is Dora, a foul mouthed, self-obsessed seventeen-going-on-thirty-year-old and her divinely camp-over-the-top brother with a kind heart and damaged psyche who rechristens himself Oscar. She is best-known for starring in and writing her comedy sketch show, French and Saunders, alongside her comedy partner Jennifer Saunders, and for playing the lead role of Geraldine Granger in the sitcom The Vicar of Dibley.

Nekako sam došla do polovice knjige, ostalo sam preletjela, ali za obje polovice učinak je isti - jedno veliko ništa! The ending is perfect; everything from Dora's 18th birthday party to the final page made me feel all warm and gooey inside. So lässt Dora zum Beispiel all ihren Frust in einer sehr schimpfwortlastigen Sprache ab, während ihr Bruder sich bemüht wie Oscar Wilde zu klingen.

Although I've left Israel, I hope to continue participating as a member of my beloved Jerusalem-based book club thanks to the blessings of technology. She is taking a huge risk regardless of the consequences that it can cause her family, either driving them apart or pulling them closer together. Whilst not seriously pretending to present a psychological analysis of family dynamics, I also found the book reaffirming in the traditional family values of reliability and dependability over the perceived attraction of infidelity and illusory excitement.
