Somehow turning classified information over to the FBI becomes a violation of national security—a plot twist ignoring the proper authority to investigate security leaks in the U. Thatcher's policies have put husbands and sons out of work, and the city's notorious drugs epidemic is waiting in the wings.

The story had potential and I wanted to finish it, somewhat to see if there would be sufficient ending to warrant coming back for the second book. But when she got too close to the truth, Caroline suddenly committed suicide, and Jack didn't believe a word of it. Things don’t go far as Wendy discovers this is not something she wants, or can bring herself to follow through, but the damage is done. At Dreame, Stevenson has always been a lover for all kinds of novels with unique appetite for the female characters and their storylines. Short chapters and a fast-paced storyline had me gripped and I ended up reading the whole book in just over a day.A wealthy and powerful Fowler family member, Will is a charismatic and enigmatic figure who has always had a complicated relationship with Jane. I would think his job would have ground him down, the opening interview with a cop sure made me want to hurt the cop bad.Curtis may have signalled the beginning of her involvement but the situation goes much further back than that. Hopefully this will not be a problem in the next book as the new character has now been established. As written, the book is really three different yet related books in one: (1) the major crisis, (2) the victim on the run, and (3) the metamorphosis and series setup. With little more than the occasional nod to the threat that Jim will ultimately face, Klein still manages to make this first section of the novel extremely readable and strangely exciting.
