About this deal

We produce our books to the highest standard, drawing wherever we can on the traditional skills and resources available in Scotland. Reading all three together certainly doesn't detract from any of the volumes - they flow on nicely from one to the next.

He never kills except to satisfy his hunger as is proved by the unconcern with which herds graze around a pride when they know that the lions’ bellies are full. Luckily, Born Free came to the rescue, and Bella and Simba were brought together to live out their days in peace at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre in Malawi, southern Africa. Adamson's style is pretty dry and dull, sometimes using a lot more detail than needed for fairly mundane things like setting up camp (which they do a lot, if I read about setting camp again I'm going to lose it). Katharine understands the issues around wellbeing and the dynamics of modern family and work pressures, and invites us each of us to consider how we might live more deliberately, simply and freely. George later realized the lioness was just protecting her cubs, which were found nearby in a rocky crevice. This book records the extraordinary relationship with a Kenya lioness established by the author over a period of four years, and still existing. In this profoundly empowering book, Katharine Hill explores how we can experience the love of God more deeply and truly flourish even while fulfilling the considerable responsibilities of work, bringing up a family and the complex demands of contemporary life. It was amazing reading their closeness, their companionship, and Elsa's gentleness, even so that Elsa could lay next to Joy and George casually as if she was a house cat. To celebrate Born Free’s Year of the Lion in 2016, the awesome animal charity is releasing fantastic new editions of their exciting animal rescue stories, packed with cool wildlife photos and animal facts to sink your teeth into. Attentive to the page they were sticking in, which, providentially, is about Jesus, the cross and how even in our darkest times, our lives are in his hands.

In good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout. It is the conflict between our heart’s desire to know God in a deeper way and and the lived reality of the relentless activity and hurriedness that militates against that. Millions have also come to know and love Born Free through the immortal film starring Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers. Rarely have I sensed, as I did with Born Free, that a book had been “lived out” in practice long before it was “written out” on paper.

The biography of Elsa the lioness by Joy Adamson (1910-1980), the wife of the Kenya Game Warden, George Adamson. Ultimately then, this is something to be read for the story rather than the prose and most people in the Western world will know exactly what to expect. It's like having to share your best friend with someone new and becoming second fiddle to everything, even though Joy is completely aware that it's good for Elsa to seek this independence.

The main thing I took away from this is the fact that you can't help but fall in love with Elsa and the other lions throughout. It may be because I keep comparing them to Lawrence Anthony, another conservationist, and I find that Mr. I couldn't lose sight of the fact that Elsa was orphaned because he killed her mother thinking she was a male lion, leaving the three cubs without a mother. I know that I read this as a child, and of course, I have seen the movie many times, but it is as amazing a story now as it was back in the 1950s and 1960s when it was happening. Otherwise Elsa does all the things that domestic cats and dogs do - meow, purr, stalk animals, knock drinks off tables with her tail, get stuck climbing trees, jump up on people she likes, play with sticks, go swimming in the Indian Ocean, and so on with the slight difference that she is a wild animal, big and heavy. It is about the author and her husband adopting three lion cubs after he accidentally kills their mother and releasing one, Elsa in the wild.
