About this deal

This will be a perfect read to anyone who loves reality show romances, fake engagement romances, and romances that make you fall in love right alongside the characters. I lost the plot a bit because the reality show wasn’t all that interesting to me, and it both seemed kinda like a confusing afterthought but also too present lol. This story tracks how their feelings for one another develop, despite the growing pressures of lying to their families and performing for the cameras.

This is the perfect read for people looking for a love story that is lower angst, fluffy, and sweet in the right moments but still has a bit of heat. The aim of this romance is to be a super-warm, kind and loving space, and goodness knows that's profoundly needed.

The atmosphere of the book was filled with such love, warmth, and light, it was an easy, cozy novel to sink into! The whole premise of the novel is a fake engagement stunt, but frankly the fake part falls away pretty quickly. D’Vaughn and Kris meet through the reality TV show Instant I Do, which pairs up contestants who’ve never met and gives them six weeks to convince their loved ones they’re getting married, all while actually planning a wedding. It's such a quick read and if you're a fan of the recent trend of reality shows playing a large role, you'll love it!

Ofte, in romance books, the story feels like it's happening in a bubble with how uninvolved everyone else seems to be.They have the type of love where you don’t even hesitate to root for a very real wedding at the end of them only knowing each other for 4 weeks. There was no harmful diet/exercise culture, no shame or even much insecurity about her size, there weren’t constant reminders that she’s big, it wasn’t a main plot point at all, just simple fact. The only real problems for me came from consistency issues surrounding the technical reality show aspects that I think should have been caught by an editor. D’Vaughn auditions for the hit reality show Instant I Do because she wants a surefire way to come out to her family and to finally get out of her shell.

She knew how to draw me into a story from the first page, while keeping my enjoyment level up until the end. At some points it kind of felt like the author was figuring things out as she went along, but didn’t go back to shore up any leaks that may have been caused in the story. This is what the best books do: they help you connect to something inside yourself that you are just discovering. VERDICT In a romance featuring Black joy, plus-sized beauty, and Mexican pride, the conflicts are entirely believable, and not overly dramatic, and make for a thoroughly enjoyable read.
