About this deal

Kate Eberlen grew up in a small town thirty miles from London and spent her childhood reading books and longing to escape. contain no personal information and the data that they do contain are not shared with anyone, or used outside of this site. You know it’s a good novel when you have to immediately flick back to the beginning to reread some bits to help you process the ending, which is exactly what I had to do! uk/landing-page/orion/orion-company-information/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Orion Publishing Group Limited. After many readers asked me what happened to Tess and Gus, I decided to explore whether it would really be possible for characters with such different backgrounds and challenges to live happily ever after.

The Sun", "Sun", "Sun Online" are registered trademarks or trade names of News Group Newspapers Limited. Because Tess’s mum and auntie are correct - falling in love is just the beginning, and it’s what comes after that’s important. Now despite the intoxicating Florence and Sicily settings which had me *this* close to booking a flight, this isn’t always an uplifting love story without heartache and tragedy - it’s complex and devastating at times (that ending 😭).Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Obviously the expectation would be that the story would follow all of Tess and Gus’s missed chances for years, which in itself is gripping, but the fact that the author starts right when they finally meet properly, and instead only briefly references all those twists of fate throughout, is fascinating.

Kate Eberlen has gone beyond the initial star-crossed romance of Tess and Gus to explore the lasting nature of relationships with her characteristic sensitivity, perception and humour in this inspirational book. Cleverly using the construct of the fairytale Eberlen has written a novel of epic proportions which asks whether even the purest love can survive real life challenges such as family obligations, social differences, financial pressures and mental and physical illness. When I wrote The End, I found I couldn’t stop wondering whether it would really be possible for characters with such different back stories to live happily ever after. With each chapter allowing the reader an insight into Tess and Gus’ individual lives, Eberlen provided a satisfying observation of his and hers’ thoughts and feelings, which paved the way throughout the story. But alas, here I am, having worked up the courage to do just that, and hoping that I make some sort of sense while doing so. I’m thrilled to be joining Orion’s fabulous list of authors and to be working with a team whose publishing I’ve admired and enjoyed for many years.
