The key to all the patterns in this book is the saturation of colors, whether pastels, earth tones, or deep bright jewel tones, Fasset's favorite. His "Red Diamonds Quilt" is vibrant with patches of sunflowers, grapes and a multitude of floral designs. Listening to his talk it was clear that his eye and his mind were wired to see color and pattern in ways that most of us do not. By the end of the class, everyone had a basic layout designed for their quilt that they were pleased with, though maybe not all the blocks were cut or put up. Yet despite this popularity he accepted the adulation with grace and humility, patiently signing quilt books and posing for cell phone photos with the attendees. This was purely about putting together a design that had the undeniable look of a Kaffe Fassett quilt.

What I really like is that Fasset's choice of colors makes wonderful use of simple patchwork designs such that the designs themselves become only a background for new, shimmering combinations of fabrics.
