Graham’s continue to make some of their Ports by traditional treading in stone lagares but also own a modern lagare in Malvedos. Unfiltered or ""Traditional"" LBV ports require decanting like vintage ports do, and may improve in the bottle. This is time-consuming and requires a significant amount of manual labour, ensuring the wine retains its unique flavours and aromas. The wine is made from a blend of grapes from several different vineyards, and only the best grapes are selected for use in the wine.

The aromas are very complex with a powerful fragrance that expresses its age, and on the palate an array of flavours, from delicate fruit and raisins, to toasted toffee and chocolate, lead to a long and hugely satisfying aftertaste. Port"" wines produced outside of Portugal may be labelled with a vintage date, but rarely possess the quality and proven age-ability of true vintage port.

As you pour this wine into your glass, you will immediately notice its deep amber color and sweet, intense aromas of dried fruit, nuts, and toffee. In much the same way as the 20 and 30 Year Old Tawny, the 40 Year Old is a masterclass in the art of blending aged wines but stepped up another notch. All of Graham’s Tawny Ports have their own individual characteristics, the complex flavours and aromas that pervade each of these unique wines have been developed through selecting only our top quality wines from Graham’s four spectacular Quinta’s in the Douro Valley to age in seasoned oak casks in our 1890 Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia. Tawny port is aged in wooden barrels, exposing it to gradual oxidation and evaporation, causing its colour to mellow to a golden-brown after roughly ten years ""in wood.

Graham’s Aged Tawny Ports are made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection are blended and subsequently matured in seasoned casks for a number of years until their peak of maturity is attained.
