About this deal

So like I said, when Grandad's Island arrived - and we honestly didn't know much about this book before hand - while reading it I noticed that everything slowly came into place for her and I could see she could understand it that much more.

Myślę, że każde dziecko zrozumie tę historię na swój sposób a my jako rodzice/nauczyciele, możemy jedynie pomóc im ją przyswoić. I also loved how it was as if Syd had dropped his Grandad off in 'heaven/the afterlife/whatever you'd like it to be' and this could encourage children who may be going through the same to imagine this amazing happy place where their loved one is at peace. A heart-warming adventure tale, this picture book sees a young boy and his Grandad take to the skies to rescue the stranded astronauts spotted through their telescope. Sure to provide comfort to young children struggling to understand loss, Benji Davies's tale is a sensitive and beautiful reminder that our loved ones live on in our memories long after they're gone. Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. Recommend to young families dealing with loss, especially those who prefer to gloss over the scientific realities. A very thought-provoking book which could be used to expand KS2 students thinking regarding the realism of the story and coping with grief. Not only is there an overall positive tone and message in the story; the illustrations and in taking this book from good to exemplary.

It is not included in promotions available to our main range products, as stated in our terms of service. It's a story about losing a loved one and while this might put some people off from reading, it could actually help you more than you think. What I thought was that this was just a magical book about a boy making a journey with his granddad in a magical boat or that it was a dream where a boy has a wonderful trip with his dear grandpa. The book has endless opportunities for discussion and predictions to extend children's understanding of the story.

Parents and educators can use this to talk with a child about how it's normal to be sad and miss loved ones. This could be discussed as a class, small groups or 1:1 about how it can be really, really hard after you say goodbye but it hopefully gets a little easier day by day. The story is written really well and the illustrations complement the text; it is incredibly poignant. It's one of those ones that as an adult you get all sad reading it and you're like "life is fleeting! Benji Davies is the illustrator of the Bizzy Bear books, Bizzy Bear: Let’s Go and Play and Bizzy Bear: Fun on the Farm. Missing his grandfather, Syd is comforted by the idea, as represented by the letter from the island that he receives, that his Grandad is in a good place.
