A beautifully realised book, helmed by illustrator Dapo Adeola and featuring a number of other excellent artists, this is a portrait of the Black experience while growing up. They involve so many elements that add meaning to the written text but can also be explored in a more stand-alone manner which creates meaning in its own way. Dapo was announced as the winner of the inaugural Illustrator of the Year Award for The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (the Lollies), which celebrates the best and funniest children's books in the UK and Ireland, voted for by children in 2023. Dapo is a genius when it comes to illustrations and specially when capturing our beautiful black children and the their personalities.I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.
