Slowly but surely they figured out the best way to make ice cream, tweaked the fillings and began marketing. The thin cardboard envelope the book was posted in had ripped and Royal Mail had to put it in one of their plastic envelopes. One of my favorite parts of l’Appart was when you talked about taking ice cream to your neighbors and pharmacist. The first section of the book gives some background on how Ben and Jerry got started in the ice cream business.
I recently tried this Breville one in the States, which I liked using, but they’re not available in France. There’s a lot of company history too, which was a neat background for why they do things the way they do. Of course we look at the trends and you will find recipes without allergens, vegan recipes and Gelato with sugar reduction.Last days of summer here in NZ, and I have a daughter visiting soon, who is mad for Negronis, so I keep checking the mailbox.
