About this deal

With Carina’s gentle guidance, learn to embroider 12 large and 12 small mandalas, using just 10 stitches. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.

I especially like the fact that all the designs are printed on transfer paper at the back of the book. You could easily follow the instructions to the letter and end up with a beautiful piece but Carina encourages readers to experiment to come up with their unique piece using different colours and stitches. I love that the Table of Contents includes a visual guide of every project in the book, to pique your curiosity, and give you a clue of where you might want to start. The market loved them and so she continued, introducing full colour and a successful series of practical art books – the Leisure Arts.

As a new embroiderer this book has helped me understand the right tools to use and what to use and where. Each pattern page includes a color line diagram, with DMC floss suggestions, a stitch guide, and a large, lovely photo of the finished piece. As for the mandala: because I find hand stitching so relaxing and meditative, I would hang it on my craft room wall to remind me to chill out! A bit disappointing, the patterns are rather heavily printed, some too intricate to stitch and no good colour pictures linked to the patterns.

The book has 24 (actually 25, one is kind of secret) mandala inspired embroidery transfers and of course stitch and colour suggestions for my versions of the patterns. Only 10 stitches have been used to create all the mandalas, and each one is explained and accompanied by clear, step-by-step diagrams at the beginning of the book. Suggestions for colors and stitches are provided, but stitchers can customize based on individual preferences. To enjoy all that Hobbycraft has to offer, please enable cookies or check whether another programme is blocking them. And I think Mandalas to Embroider is a perfect introduction to embroidery, as you can build your confidence by practicing your stitching on the smaller patterns, or do as I did and jump right into a large one.The beauty of the transfer is that you have a very accurate design to follow and that helps to create neat and beautiful embroidered work. Embroidery is huge in our community right now because the Bohemian style has come back into fashion.

This means that all the designs can be simply ironed onto your fabric, saving you the hassle of transferring the design by hand. Without these technologies, things like personalised recommendations, your account preferences, or localisation may not work correctly. This is a good thing – the relaxed nature of the design felt like permission to be relaxed in the execution – there’s no need to make every stitch exactly even and perfect to get a beautiful result. If you look through the photos, you will see an example that I embroidered on a linen bag, using linen thread. I could have repeated this same pattern for all of the cute radish-like shapes, but instead I chose to rotate all 3 colors is different combinations.
