About this deal

It amazed me that he openly admits that he’s never read a book in his life and doesn’t enjoy reading. It is clear that McIntyre is a man who is in his element when everything revolves around him, when there are others in the limelight, he is self aware enough to know that he does not do as well. Something I found interesting is that, while Michael McIntyre has of course achieved a lot, and I don't want to undermine his hard work, so much seemed to happen and grow because of his manager, Addison Cresswell. I have been enjoying Michael McIntyre’s work for many years and saw him live in Cardiff back in 2018. His observations of every day life and all it's quirks are what makes him so funny because he relates to all of us in some way.

I like Michael McIntyre's ability to make people laugh without necessarily assassinating people's character or swearing all over the place and he pulls it off in this book too. Michael is plagued by self doubt and despite becoming famous didn't have the success that you'd expect. Becoming a success in any profession, let alone something as difficult as showbiz, is full of highs and a lot of lows, and he doesn’t ignore these. I even heard a few people around me make a similar comment like “I heard him do some of those jokes before” when seeing Michael live in Cardiff. His incredible talent for voices and acting the character of a person brought this book, his story, totally to life, in a way that made me desperate to meet and know these people myself.

Despite how much he uses his own life for inspiration for routines, it should come as no surprise that there is so much more. It was a nice read, though with the exception of Addison, I never really felt like there was much effort to dive beneath the surface.Although he means well his desire in chasing fame, wealth and status dominates his life and purpose which was sad to read as he doesn't necessarily present himself that way in his stand up.

He also recounts the highs and lows of his career (including the disappointment when his chat show bombed) with honesty and humour. Life has certainly been unusual, silly, and at times stressful for Michael, but above all it has been a funny life. Laugh along with Michael McIntyre as he lifts the curtain on his life in his long-awaited autobiography. I bought the first autobiography in print years ago, but the over-saturation of McIntyre made it find its way to the back of the shelves and then into loft boxes fairly quickly. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Laugh along with Michael McIntyre as he lifts the curtain on his life in his revealing autobiography.

I read his previous autobiography many years ago and this follows on from 2006 and goes up to when he won a BAFTA in 2017. What a brilliant book and the most down to earth, sincere and humble gentleman I have read about, and this book is just as good as his first book, absolutely fantastic. I really love the way he sees the humour in many things that to most people are just every-day occurences! For Michael to bring a character to life so much that in the audio book that you feel you love the guy and you can’t wait to see what he says and does next, is just beautiful. I love how he’s so open and honest about his almost crippling lack of self confidence and his fragility.
