About this deal

The house is full of strange bustling, there are new noises and new smells, and where is that tree going? Gradually, as each of the 16,574 animated frames is passed along the pipeline, the animation comes to life. It does all the things that I think good animation does, it embraces the whole family, there's gags for everybody. if you have ever seen the Sainsbury's ads for Christmas, you probably have seen the film version of this book. When Mr Thomas and the two children arrive home with an enormous Christmas tree, Mog takes fright and scrambles onto the roof for safety. The money donated to Save the Children will go towards their UK literacy work and will also give funding to support the aims of the national Read On. Being a cat she can't just jump up and shout "hey two-legs, what in the name of buddy christ is going on?The movements and mannerisms of the titular Mog will instantly be relatable to any cat appreciator, and the storytelling and visual style is absolutely on par with Judith Kerr's original works. The pastels and line drawings speak pleasingly of the original, but with its world newly expanded, the small screen version of Mog’s Christmas is very retro indeed. An original song, sweetly sung by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, was written by the Oscar-winning lyricist Don Black and the Grammy-winning composer David Arnold. Anyway, in this era of catch-up you can watch it whenever you like, and you should, because it’s the loveliest thing.

When you know so many people have done this scene beforehand and then you’re there to put it together and pass it on to someone else – it’s a very lovely pipeline. But somewhat to my surprise, I find myself now identifying more with the cat than the professor, what with being a large furry creature who is by instinct suspicious of change, but who can sometimes be convinced by treats and a suitable amount of fussing. I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. We are thrilled to once again bring Judith Kerr’s delightful illustrations to life in animation and to do so in the 100th anniversary of her birth feels very special”.That one should have been obvious, it's hardly a common name, but that he should have managed neither to be overawed by their work, nor complacently coast on the proceeds, but produce at least one very good novel of his own! This new animation is a gentler affair, adapted from Kerr’s picture book of the same name, which was first published in 1976. Mog gets through a lot of boiled eggs in the course of her adventures, something that always puzzled me. We are thrilled that the beloved Mog will now be introduced to a whole new generation of children through this delightful animation”. When we collected it from the local Rotary Club a few weeks ago and shoved it in the car, Heidi was a blubbering mess.

The Thomas family try everything to rescue her but Mog refuses to come down, and despite everyone’s fears for her safety, she has a magical night in the snow and a cat-themed Christmas dream.

What does happen, is that Mog freaks out, flees to the roof and dreams she’s on a fluffy white cloud surrounded by falling pink mice, before crashing down through the chimney pot and landing in the living room in a shower of soot and Christmas cards. Miram Margolyes was very physical in everything she was doing during the recording session,” says Shaw. The animation will also feature its own theme song, As long as I Belong, performed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor of Murder on the Dance Floor fame. It’s an enormous responsibility bringing Mog to the screen," says director Robin Shaw, whose team at Lupus Films also produced 2019’s hit adaptation The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

Meanwhile, Mog’s purrs and miaows will be provided by Tacy Kneale, Judith Kerr’s daughter, who said, “Our own Mog was a huge part of my childhood.Perhaps someone who had an actual cat back then could tell me whether this was the recommended diet for felines of the Seventies? Following on from the success of the 2019 adaptation of The Tiger Who Came to Tea, classic feline Mog created by much-loved children’s author Judith Kerr will light up our Christmas TV viewing this year and also allow fans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Judith Kerr’s birth. Mog is, perhaps, unique in being a beloved and established children’s character that shuffled off this mortal coil.
