Description

The game is played over five rounds: after each round you are scored according to one, two or three of the victory tiles drawn at the start of the game. The box alread includes the family friendly Druid expansion, the Tunnel tiles mini expansion, as well as the brand new Boderlands Module mini expansion and offers hours and hours of gameplay. You can only use the money that is not currently assigned to a tile, so you might not want to put all your money on the tiles to raise their value as you won’t be able to spend it. The monetary compensation rather ensures that the lagging players will be able to purchase a tile and possibly protect the ones they’ve drawn, making up for their stagnation in prior rounds.

This digital adaptation of the game is a solid attempt with only a couple of issues that knock the score down slightly. So then you might try to play for each rounds scoring round by round, or prepare for a big score in one round hoping that others won’t outscore across the others (or that you will not have to pay too much for the tiles you need! You get five gold per turn for your castle, but you also get one for every whisky distillery connected to your castle by a road, because of course you do. vp for each sheep and each cattle that is orthogonally or diagonally adjacent to a farm in the clan territory. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. You lay them in such a way as to score victory points from the 4 randomly selected victory point criteria. Players score victory points by fulfilling objectives on scoring tiles, from coins, and from fulfilling objectives on scrolls.

Isle of Skye doesn’t have much in it that would be considered innovative, but it combines familiar elements into an appealing package that still feels fresh with each play. As an aside, don’t ever let those dreadfully tedious people tell you what is and isn’t okay to play – enjoy the recreation that appeals to you. Personally, I can definitely recommend it as a light 2-player entertainment, with some decent (but not extensive) depth, and I am sure it will be just as good with more players.

This led to several expansions and promos for Isle of Skye, and now, eight years later, a “Big Box” collection. The box already includes the family friendly Druid expansion, the Tunnel tiles mini expansion, as well as Boderlands Module mini expansion and offers hours and hours of gameplay. Isle of Skye is in other words, a perfect Spiel des Jahres winner and with the benefit of hindsight it’s the only possible candidate for 2016 that could have won. Thanks to the scoring tiles, each game is different and leads to different tactics and strategies, but having enough money is useful no matter what else is going on. Isle of Skye solves that problem by having the players draw three tiles at once and having to choose two of them to keep.

Nevertheless, for me, I would not play Isle of Skye without the second expansion: Druids — it completes the game in a good way, pushing it to give better experience.

With changeability and easy to learn rules, Isle of Skye is the perfect game for all types of players. So each round you look around and try to work out (a) how much that tile is worth to you and (b) how much it is worth to someone else. They mention that it is not too complex, it is easy for any player to pick up, and it isn't difficult to teach. Additionally, the player board becomes like an engine, making it a new element to consider in the Isle of Skye. After each round, the players receive points based upon the scoring tiles in action that round and the next round starts.

Isle of Skye is a tile placement, auction, territory building, strategy game for two to five players. In one game, sets of lighthouses, brochs, and farms were worth 5 points each, and this scoring condition was in window D. In the end, the player with the best kingdom, not the richest player, becomes the sovereign of the island. Each provides a different way to score points, and which window they appear in can make a huge difference. I’m Scottish (you may have noticed) and this misty eyed romanticism of my homeland is not new to me. Luckily, Isle of Skye does all it can to remain speedy: most of the difficult decisions (like pricing and placing tiles) are handled simultaneously. This was the second successive year the design team of Andreas Pelikan and Alexander Pfister won the Kennerspiel, following the 2015 Kennerspiel des Jahres won for the game Broom Service.
