Another annoyance besides the fact that Annie just irritated and frustrated the living stoof out of me is that she would have dialogue that came OUT OF NOWHERE. It was like the author had mapped out these “scenes” and would just jump to them like a squirrel who got distracted by too many nuts. And you're just like, where did this come from? What are we talking about? Who, what, where, how? ALLL THE RELATIVE PRONOUNS!I think this bled into another aspect I didn’t like. I want my female main characters to be feisty and be able to stand up for themselves. But she needs to do it for her, and it needs to be driven BY HER… Why is it that this man that she's with is the first person to see who she is and the first person that she can “actually” talk to, WHEN SHE IS SO CLOSE TO HER FAMILY, I wanted her to find herself, and not meet a man as the catalyst to find herself. I'm all for woman empowerment and not being rescued. And it felt like she could only be her true self when she found a guy! And wasn’t able to be herself without him.
