About this deal

Another fave was rookie Agent Wren, whose enthusiasm leads to more than one awkward (but highly entertaining) conversation with her supervisor—trust me, it’s pretty much impossible not to find her antics a little amusing. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Everyone loves a wholesome queer romantic comedy, especially one set in the UK, but what makes this sparkling debut unique, is embedding all that in a brilliantly exciting sci-fi plot. There's a main thread of self acceptance which I think is perfect for the target age range. I can see this positively impacting older teens and young adults. However, there are some intense and surprising topics discussed during the latter half of the book especially and caution should be taken when reading.

OVEREMOTIONAL: the wholesome, queer YA adventure [PDF] [EPUB] OVEREMOTIONAL: the wholesome, queer YA adventure

Fleeing to the miserable town of Grunsby-on-Sea, Steven is determined to not hurt anyone else - but he doesn’t count on his best friend Freya, her boyfriend Marcus and American friend Troy following him. And when agents from the mysterious DEMA organisation show up talking about “neutralisation”, Steven realises that Grunsby-on-Sea might not be the safe haven he’d hoped for… Every character is so lovable in their own way, I love Troy so much and he is literally the definition of a teenager with a crush, so cringey and awkward is so real. Steven’s emotions feel so genuine every time, and as he is incapable of controlling the consequences of them, you know the real emotion even if it is masked because of the magic happening in him. A fun and humorously heartfelt, queer coming-of-age story, that perfectly captures the awkwardness of growing up (complete with all the emotional, angsty bits) but with an X-Men meets Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D twist that had me utterly hooked! Whilst this endearing and wholesome LGBTQ+ read does include some swearing and sexual innuendo, this reviewer would say that tonally Overemotional falls at the younger end of the young adult spectrum. It would perhaps be best suited for a young person who is ready to move on to a slightly more mature read without sacrificing fun and adventure. Fans of Simon James Green, Tola Okogwu and Alice Oseman will enjoy this one.Sometimes, emotions can be a little too powerful . . . 17-year-old Steven has a big problem . . . Whenever he feels intense emotions, weird things happen. Like when he kissed a boy for the first time, and the boy's head literally exploded. However, while this did not bother me at all as I am from the age of RPs and fanfiction being my main source of reading/writing as a young teen in the early 2000's, there are a few points in the POV swapping where the characters sorta respond to one another in their thoughts/feelings- I could see where it would not be to someone else's tastes. When Ven’s plans for a great summer and a great life are thrown into jeopardy, nothing will stop her from pursuing her dreams. Exploring disability and resilience through artistic expression, Sing If You Can’t Dance is empowering, genuine and memorable in equal measure. Highly recommended for teens in KS3 and KS4.

All in all, I could tell these characters are very important to the author and feel very personal and I loved it. Author Luke Palmer introduces his new book, Play (Firefly Press) about four boys growing up together, the challenges, the friendships, and what hap...

Fenne is an author, actor and improviser based in south-east London. He came to London in 2012 for drama school, studying American Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College. He trained abroad for half a year at Syracuse University in New York. He is also an improv comedian, running a long-form improv theatre company, Pinch Punch. Steven is a genuinely relatable average sixth former who is full of all the angsty and turbulent emotions we all recognise, but with a dangerous twist. Whenever he feels a strong emotion, weird things happen and when he kisses a boy for the first time, the boy’s head explodes! He flees the scene and hides in the miserable town of Grunsby -on-Sea, so that his wittily self- named ‘emomancy’ will not harm anyone else. But best friend Freya won’t let him disappear and she is worried about a mysterious organisation called DEMA, who is asking questions about him. A very intense read. Steven moves alone to a new town after a life-changing event happens due to his superpowers. However, his friends Troy and Freya along with Freya's boyfriend, Marcus follow him.
