Getting that role as The King of Men, Jamie Fraser. My God he was made for this role. I love how he said when he read through the audition script he got a “feeling” that he knew this man. That’s some special kismet stuff right there. Gives me chills. He talked about how much he loves Diana Galbadon and how she shared the ending of the whole OL series with him and Maryl. In this journey of self-discovery, Sam Heughan sets out along the West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam, and a charming, funny, wise and searching insight to the world through his eyes.

The mushrooms!! Him and the mushrooms!! Oh, and the midges! 😂 😂 Even after watching all the episodes of Men in Kilts, I never saw any hint of Sam’s little obsession with the mushrooms! The midges – most definitely! But now, I’ll never think the same of the mushrooms. I am now well aware that they are always watching us. 😂 🍄 Thankfully, his resilience/belief in himself paid off eventually, securing the role of a certain charismatic Highlander, a role that couldn’t have been more tailor-made. Sam is Jamie Fraser and has won the hearts of many women across the globe, including me 🫠 I especially enjoyed the photos and the Outlander content, although I wished there had been more, not just because I’m a fan but because it was just so satisfying to witness him realise his dream. The Barbican Hall is located within the main Barbican building. Head to Level G and follow the signs to find your seating level. The male lead of the TV series Outlander takes us on a long Scottish hike while recounting the travails of stage and screen. Let’s be honest. I would have probably given this book five stars just because I’m such a huge fan of Sam Heughan but after reading it I’m giving it five stars because it’s so good! I loved the sections about his walk, what he learned from the other hikers he met like Graeme and Lucy, and what he learned from being alone, without his busy schedule filling every minute. He talks about learning not to feel rushed and to stay in the moment instead of the future or the past. He is so honest about how this affected past relationships and his hope that the lessons he’s learned during the walk will change that. As the title suggests, Waypointsis a rewarding mix of markers, both personal as he reflects on his life and geographical as he leads the reader along the West Highland Way.”— The Scotsman

Having worked together for almost 9 years, the costars have a say on set. Now, executive producers of a show they both love, Heughan and Balfe not only lead on set, but get to have creative input behind the scenes too. No longer naïve young actors, they now are role models to the younger cast. Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, Lauren Lyle, John Bell, and Caitlin O’Ryan have all spoken about this. From the touching foreward / poignant prologue, I didn’t want to put this down. I didn’t think I could admire Sam Heughan any more than I already did, but I was wrong. He hasn’t had it easy, sometimes he’s been his own worst enemy, but thankfully he gets there in the end. What strikes me most though, is that no matter how wonderful a job, his single mother accomplished in raising two young boys, his late father has a lot to answer for. His actions have had a profound effect. Sam’s earliest memory taunts him still, not to mention the protective mechanisms he’s put in place. It’s just a sad chapter of his life, period. I read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon many years ago and really liked it. When I heard that a television series was being made, I eagerly waited for it. The made-for-tv series is just as good as the original book(s)! Actor Sam Heughan, who is cast in the lead male role of Jamie Fraser, brings his character to life. Although Heughan begins his journey walking alone, the most humorous moments in the book are when you can tell he misses human interaction. He ends up befriending mushrooms. Yes, mushrooms. Fungi, to be exact. You know how Tom Hanks befriended a volleyball named Wilson in Castaway? Same sitch. Heughan talked to the mushrooms, told them a few dad jokes, and even took several selfies with them. I love truffles, so I support the fact that this man talked to mushrooms. Period. I will say nothing more on the matter. Oh wait, one more thing. Heughan’s mushroom friends have led to fans constantly tweeting mushrooms at him. Hopefully, they’ll send actual truffles to him, and then it will have all been worth it. A deeply personal and warmly entertaining memoir that fans of Sam - and Scotland - will have a joyful time devouring' - Heat

In this time to myself, once I’d learned to enjoy the walk with no pressure to see what was over the next hill, I have come to find a new appreciation of the world around me. It doesn’t take much for me to realize that perhaps I should apply the same approach to relationships. I’m also mindful that I am the son of a man who disappeared. A deeply personal and warmly entertaining memoir that fans of Sam - and Scotland - will have a joyful time devouring.”— Heat Am I tempted to walk ridiculous miles to then walk up a ridiculously tall mountain? Hell nope. I am however tempted to stay in a lil Scottish hotel and read by a fire.

Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much to Sam about himself as it does to his readers. At points I felt my own feet and bones ache as it's so descriptive about his travels along the West Highland Way you feel your traipsing along with him. That adversity is what eventually inspired his own charity organization, My Peak Challenge, which inspires others to live a healthy lifestyle, and has raised money for a range of causes from hunger relief to cancer research.Waypoints begins sort of ominously. Heughan and his brother enter someone’s house in Canada, and you soon start to think they might be at a fan’s house, as Heughan discovers a DVD of a movie he’s in on the shelves. But the owner is someone who has been watching Heughan from afar. His father – who had left them when Heughan was very young. But this visit isn’t necessarily a happy one. His father is dying, and they are told that he’s not ready to see them. “And I would walk 500 miles…” Assistance dogs may be taken into the concert hall where there are a limited number of suitable seats in row G of the stalls. If you prefer, you may leave your dog with a member of the cloakroom staff during the performance. His acting journey wasn’t an easy one. So many slammed doors and disappointments, but he managed to not lose heart. He talked about times when his account was in the negative and he honestly didn’t know what he would do. He even became a bar tender and talked about the embarrassment of what it was like serving your peers (fellow actors) umm, Richard Madden. Very humbling. As for the book-spawning Scottish trek itself, Heughan documented that, too, and admitted to “descending into insanity” by way of isolation. He told WBUR that he found himself reciting Romeo and Juliet and talking to the forest floor’s mushrooms. Some of the best parts of the book are when he runs into random strangers in the wild and then they suffer, er… enjoy, walking together through miserable weather elements, shin splints and aching Achilles. A traveler named Graeme recognizes Heughan right away. He says, “I saw your movie, it was shit.” And a beautiful friendship was born.
