Description

Now, it has been a fair while since I have seen the film, but I think this novelization basically recounts the tale as it appears on screen. So, if you are a big fan of the film, I would guess that this would appeal to you. Bette Midler • Sarah Jessica Parker • Kathy Najimy • Omri Katz • Thora Birch • Vinessa Shaw • Sean Murray • Jason Marsden • Doug Jones

There is also on the family tree another scrawled out face with the name of E. Podbury. This is the name of the fourth Sanderson sisters from 2018 sequel book. Why? Just why? Please let this not be a implication and reflection of the upcoming film. A must-see for fans of the cult classic film, this novelization was a good read. I had just recently watched the new sequel film, so when I stumbled across this novelization at my library, I was thrilled to see what might have been in store for readers in this revisit of the original film. The artwork was excellent, of course. One can tell that Grimly was inspired by the appearances of the actors who originally portrayed the characters, but he made sure to put his own twist upon them to give them a whole new look. Very well done.

TRAVIS REESE | Travis is a math and chemistry whiz, a master of bad puns, and Poppy’s loyal BFF. For a long time, he was the only one who knew about Poppy’s bizarre family history involving the Sanderson sisters. Like Poppy, he doesn’t believe in evil witches or old-timey ghosts . . . until he comes face-to-face with them. As he would say, “I didn’t ex-specter this!” Shortly after moving from California to Salem, Massachusetts, Max Dennison finds himself in hot water when he accidentally releases a coven of witches, the Sanderson sisters, from the afterlife. Max, his sister, and his new friends (human and otherwise) must find a way to stop the witches from carrying out their evil plan and remaining on Earth to torment Salem for all eternity.

For the first time ever, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the immensely popular Hocus Pocus with this deluxe Illustrated Novelization that will show fans the likes of Max Dennison, the Sanderson Sisters, Binx the cat, and other iconic characters as only celebrated, renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all of their darkly humorous, unique gruesome glory! With dozens of original illustrations throughout, this Novelization is sure to become an automatic must-have among collectors and avid fans of the film. The only negative thing about this book is some of the detail in the illustrations. Winifred’s dress has no design. Also, her hair is orange like everyone else for some reason. Her hair is a dark but vibrant red. Also, Allison is blonde for some reason. In the film, she is clearly a brunette. Even though the witches sing “I Put A Spell On You,” the spell they recite is wrong in this book. A lot of people misquote it as “alpha maybe uppendie”, but it’s actually “oppa”, not “alpha”. You can see his lips say “oppa”, also the subtitles on the DVD and Disney+ say “oppa”. I was hoping they would get it right since most people don’t.

Author

Winifred Sanderson • Sarah Sanderson • Mary Sanderson • Gilbert • William Butcherson • Becca • Cassie Traske • Izzy • Jefry Traske • Mother Witch And if that is so then why is it filled with inaccuracies? The spells from the film are completely different to those in this book. Why? I don't understand. Ardent fans of the film would like the words to be the same, and the majority of those buying this book, are fans of the film. ISABELLA RICHARDS | Isabella seems to have the perfect life. She’s the most popular girl at Jacob Bailey High and has an admirable list of extracurriculars—not to mention a killer report card. It’s no wonder Poppy thinks no one holds a candle to her. (See what we did there?) After Isabella befriends Poppy and Travis at the start of the school year, Poppy shares her family’s connection to the Sanderson sisters. Isabella is itching to know more . . . but why? Featuring dozens of original illustrations, this novelization is sure to become an automatic must-have among collectors and avid fans of the film. They show a worn look and the beginnings of the chapters start with detailed calligraphy letters. Very reminiscent of the sisters’ spell book. This in itself can be a pure collector’s item. I’m surprised how low the price is as there is so much detail in the illustrations, the exterior and the overall feel of the book. I literally almost had tears in my eyes when I got my first look. The nostalgia will overwhelm you and you, as a Hocus Pocus fan, will protect this amazing book at all costs.

Customer Reviews

When they say “the illustrated novelization,” they really mean the illustrated novelization. You probably need to have seen the movie at least once to follow the story well, but if you’ve seen the movie enough times, you’ll realize this is essentially a screenplay fluffed into a novel (hence “novelization”). At several points, an editor could have been utilized to clean up portions that were poorly conveyed — things that were written to capture an image from the film (leading to confusion or redundancy in the writing) or oddly placed breaks that only make sense as scene changes on screen (but not so much on paper). Experience the magic of the cult classic Hocus Pocus with an illustrated novel that retells the film’s story, along with stunning original artwork by Gris Grimly, ahead of the release of Hocus Pocus 2!For the first time, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the hugely popular Hocus Pocus with this illustrated deluxe novel, introducing fans as Max Dennison, the Sanderson sisters, Binx the cat and other iconic characters. as only the acclaimed and renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all his singular, darkly humorous, ghastly glory! I’ll wait outside,” said Binx, jumping into the low branches of a nearby tree. “If anything happens, shout for me.”
