I had a lot of fun reading the adventures Agatha Raisin had in this book. It is hard to believe that this is number 33 in the series and I had never heard of this particular series until stumbling across this one. I wil be looking to read some of the other books in this series when I get a chance. The young man, Edward, explains that he is the club’s social convenor and had arrived early to set things up. He says he found the body at the edge of the woods, near an ancient stone known as The Lone Warrior and said to have once been used as a sacrificial altar. Meanwhile Agatha - who's always looking for a man - has a busy romantic life. The detective is toying with idea of reconciling with her ex-husband (and next-door neighbor) James Lacey; Agatha is trying to be 'just friends' with her former lover, Sir Charles Fraith, but Charles has other ideas; Agatha is drawn to Jasper Crane, the chairman of the Naturist Society; Agatha has dinner with handsome Giovanni, who's producing an opera for the church; and Agatha goes out with Inspector John Glass, who's helping her investigate the homicide. Then she finds herself in deadly danger when she begins to close in on a suspected murderer and the sinister nature of the ice cream business leads her to a chilling conclusion. In this 33rd book in the 'Agatha Raisin' series, the private detective investigates cases involving murder, theft, and drug dealing. The book can be read as a standalone.I am a HUGE fan of MC Beaton and her Agatha Raisin stories, brought to life by the wonderful and endlessly talented Penelope Keith (we’ll bypass book 2 which was not narrated by Penelope and bombed as a result); I have listened to the whole series (currently 33 books) on constant repeat for the last five years as I enjoy them so much and have gotten to know these characters intimately as a result. I was sad to hear of MC Beaton’s passing and hoped there were still gems to come in the Agatha series that she’d squirrelled away for the future. Today’s going to be sunny,” said Edward. “Tomorrow it’s going to rain. I started a phone chain to let people know the barbecue’s being brought forward from tomorrow afternoon to this afternoon. I phone two people, they phone two people and so on—all of our members then know within minutes.” Can the sisters have killed Antonio, or was it somebody else? Read this enjoyable book to find out! Terrified, he explains that he has just seen a dead body in the woods. Toni lends him an old t-shirt to cover himself, Agatha calls the police, and the young man takes them to the spot where he saw the body, across from a meadow where the Mircester Naturist Club is due to have its annual summer barbecue.

So, anyone hiding in the woods watching you,” Agatha pondered, scanning the treeline all around the clearing, “could have made off without returning to the pavilion and without us seeing them.” A blend of Miss Marple’s insight with the cunning of every murderer she ever revealed … Cosy crime with a touch of bite’ Belfast Telegraph Private detective Agatha Raisin - a fiftyish Englishwoman with small bear-like eyes and shiny brown hair - lives in Carsley, a pretty village in the Cotswolds.

Summary

Agatha stared at him. His clear blue eyes were sharp with fear and the tremble in his voice came from more than just running. There’s a lot going on in the story and lots of characters to keep up with but it was missing it’s classic Agatha wit and humor for me.

Crime in the Cotswolds has never been livelier than in Agatha’s fizzingly funny cases, and this one takes the biscuit’– Peterborough Telegraph The next Agatha Raisin mystery from 23 million copy-selling author M. C. Beaton, the Queen of Cosy Crime, about an eccentric Cotswolds-based detective with an erratic love life and a penchant for G and Ts . . .Still, he’s not difficult to look at, is he?” Toni commented, stepping out of the car, her eyes still on the front door of the building. “I mean—he’s fit, good muscle tone, nice tan. Funny little birthmark on his left hip.” It’s a huge, ancient stone slab in a clearing in the woods at the far end of our grounds,” said Edward. “They say it was once used for human sacrifices. That’s where I saw the body. It was sitting on the stone.”
