About this deal

From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies, this swoon-worthy rom-com in the vein of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. The airline employee who’d been standing beside the door grabbed the speaker and began announcing our flight. I gave Mr. Nothing another pointed look, the patented WTF are you doing look, punctuated with bug eyes, which made him shake his head and step out of line. First of all, I would like to thank NetGalley and Lynn Painter for a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. When seventeen-year-old Bailey starts a new job at a hotel waterpark, she is less than thrilled to see an old acquaintance is one of her coworkers. Bailey met Charlie a year ago on the long flight to Omaha, where she moved after her parents' divorce. Charlie's cynicism didn't mix well with Bailey's carefully well-behaved temperament, and his endless commentary was the irritating cherry on top of an already emotionally fraught trip.

He smirked. “It’s not that I don’t believe you; it’s that we both know you would’ve signed up whether it was mandatory or not.” The Eye opened again and the dude glared at me. He lifted his mouth and said something to his girlfriend that prompted them to actually move forward. Finally. I heard his girlfriend chirp about how much she was going to miss him, and I could see by his profile that he was kind of half smiling and not saying anything as they stumbled forward, hand in hand. I opened my eyes, and there was Mr. Nothing, standing in the aisle, his mouth hard as he looked just as happy to see me as I was to see him. The chemistry they had was also very swoon worthy, I was giggling and screaming so much at their banter and the tension between them (FAKE DATING. AHH). I literally had to slap my book shut every once in a while because I got so excited. Charlie and Bailey were definitely not perfect characters either. They had very real flaws, but that was one of the things I liked best about the book — they were friends who cared for each other in spite of their flaws. Upon embarking on a new job at a hotel waterpark, seventeen-year-old Bailey is disheartened to discover that one of her coworkers is an old acquaintance, Charlie. Why is this total stranger messing with me? Was this karma for daydreaming about Adorable Family being stranded at the airport? Karma was supposed to be a cat, dammit, not this. Sure they did? I made a noise, sort of a growl mixed with a groan, before fleetingly wondering if punching a fellow passenger was a federal offense. its been 3 years and.. theyre both trainees at a job training, working in the same unit. sparks fly between them, so will they become friends.. or something more?

Soon enough feelings between Bailey and Charlie begin to develop with the help of some “fake dating” but Charlie has a secret. A secret that involves Bailey and another bet Charlie may have made. i have a confession. i didnt like three things in this book. I KNOW, I KNOW! its lynn painter. but its only three things. So to say I was tightly wound by the time we lined up to board would be an understatement. I was first in line— hell yes—but buzzing with my own brand of palpable energy. My gurgling turmoil saw Adorable Family’s enthusiasm and raised the pot by a hundred. still couldn't listen to the Taylor Swift album that'd been popular at the time because it made me cry. Before bedtime: Many people find that reading before bedtime helps them unwind and relax, which can promote better sleep. speaking of.. time for the taylor swift references! most of these were direct, but some were subtle hints to her. He stopped talking but didn’t move; he just stayed put, right where he was. We both stood there, side by side, staring in front of us in silence. Why isn’t he moving? He’s not going to stay here, is he?? After another long minute of non-speak, I couldn’t take it and very nearly shouted the words “Why are you still here?” Which made the guy open his eyes—I could only see one eye—and look directly at me. While still kissing the girl. As if that wasn’t weird enough, he said to me while his lips were still attached to hers, “Oh my God—what?”

The fake dating was my favorite part, mostly because I could not stop swooning for Charlie. He was so cute and sweet!!! I loved him!!! During your commute: If you take public transportation or have a long commute, you may find it helpful to use that time to read. As a YA book I do think there was a bit too much language, otherwise nothing else bugged me. I think if I could have had a little bit longer chapters from Charlie I would have known him even better. There was something slightly missing from that angle. This is a must-read novel for all those who fall in the reading age of 14 years and up and grade level of 9 and up. Charlie is a very cynical, smart-ass of a teenage boy who absolutely hates being told what to do. To be honest, he frustrated me a little much in this book and I think he’s just too much of a menace for my type (if I met him in person, I would unfortunately be driven to insanity), but I did appreciate both his snarky + swoon-worthy comments. Him being a Gracie Abrams + Conan Gray fan definitely gave him some bonus points. Disclaimer: When Harry Met Sally isn’t a favorite movie of mine. Honestly the idea of reading it in book form—the movie is already so long—gives me hives. But I do love Lynn Painter, so I was always going to give this a read. Also there are a few spoilers below, but nothing crazy! Charlie, despite coming across as a bit of an annoying, know-it-all had so much depth and growth in this book. His relationship with Bailey was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed them as friends that slowly transitioned into something more.
