About this deal

I'll update with more predictions as I think of them, and I also feel like these are my predictions for the overall rest of the series instead of solely book 4 :) What I would give for the rest of the series to be out already. I cannot get enough of this enthralling tale created by Sarah J Maas. I loved the first book. I had wondered if the second would be as good or fall prey to the second book slump that so many do. It did not. I got better. Then I wondered if it really could get better each time or if the third would be slump. Folks, I am here to tell you this book is not a slump. It is the mighty vault into a whole new arena of splendid storytelling. Maas really is getting better with each book in this series. This one in particular was nuanced and could have been the crash to the bottom that Celaena's soul took. Somehow, in the midst of a very sorrowful point in this multi-book story, it was captivating. I think the King might find out about Celaena/Aelin in the next book, but as much as I want to see him dead, I don't think he will be AT LEAST until the end of book 5 at the soonest. I feel like all of the characters grew in this book. I really love the development that each character got. I feel like you got so much more from this series because of this growth. Poor Chaol is so conflicted on what he should do. What side he should be on. Dorian is trying to live with his magic and learn to control it. With that, he falls for a healer. The healer also helps him maintain his magic.

You collect scars because you want proof that you are paying for whatever sins you've committed. And I know this because I've been doing the same damn thing for two hundred years. Tell me, do you think you will go to some blessed Afterworld, or do you expect a burning hell? You're hoping for hell--because how could you face them in the Afterworld? Better to suffer, to be damned for eternity and--” Spoiler Alert*** And if that wasn’t frustrating enough, Book 5 ends in an infuriating cliffhanger {Redacted}. More of Celaena’s past as Aelin is revealed and answers to her origins and why her family was killed come to light. There were a few moments that squeezed my heart so much it hurt when all of the horrors of her past and the guilt she carried came to light. I dare you not to shed a tear. The interactions between the covens of witches along with their history add another layer of depth to the story and I’m really hoping that Celaena doesn’t have to fight them all because they seem very formidable.

Sorry, we couldn't find that page.

As much as I hated Celaena's separation from the characters we all know and love, I loved the new characters too much for it impact my overall reading experience. I LOVE THIS BOOK. The two men also find allies in unlikely places and are looking for a way to counteract the king but there seem to be obstacles around every corner. Aedion is Queen Aelin’s /Celaena’s cousin. He adds a whole new insight into what is really going on in Tarrasen and whose side he is on.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass 1) – Be patient this was her debut novel and SJM’s writing gets so much better. Still a good story overall. I rated it 3 stars She didn’t let it out—no, because he didn’t truly understand a thing about what lurked under her skin and ran claws down her insides.Celaena is facing more challenges than she has before and among them is dealing with her grief and embracing her magic. Celaena has become vulnerable and self-loathing after everything that has happened and what she’s supposed to do now. She gets better towards the end. Dorian and Chaol have their own struggles throughout the book. Dorian is still trying to master his magic and trying to hide it from everyone, most of all from his father who will kill him. He is also starting to finally stand up to his father and become a true king that he is destiny to be. Chaol’s loyalties are torn but he has become bolder and is willing to make sacrifices as he joins forces with unlikely allies for the greater good. I also really enjoyed Celaena and Rowan’s relationship development. I’m a huge fan of enemies to lovers, and while they aren’t exactly lovers (yet?) they are very close. He starts off as such an ass! I disliked some of the things he did. But we learn his reasons, and he softens up. It was a testament to the author’s ability that she made me hate him before loving him. I think Celaena felt the same by the end: First, if you liked the Court of Thorns series, don't read this one. It's not nearly as good, the writing isn't concise, and Maas doesn't give you a decent reason to invest in, or be attached to, any of these characters. Chaol Westfall is a pointless character in this book and in definitely the future books. Aedion's character was wasted -- she could have made him more interesting and in-depth. The entire "cadre" of Rowan, Lorcan, Gavriel and Fenrys was also wasted. She didn't really develop Rowan's character or why we should be rooting for him to love Celeana or her to love him. Maas didn't invest in the cadre and tell us their tangled past with one another, and why being split apart by blood oaths would even mean anything. And perhaps that is the reason we haven't heard more about him before now. As discussed, Celaena is a master at avoiding painful subjects, and a beloved friend who is perhaps the only surviving member of her family (on the continent), who rains terror on the remnants of Terrasen at the King's command would certainly qualify as "painful."

The time spent with Rowan encompasses a slow building friendship that Celaena has never had before. Rowan doesn’t coddle her and pushes her to extremes to be able to learn how to use her Fae gifts. She doesn’t become all powerful in her gift overnight it takes a lot of time. A respect slowly builds between them as they both see how alike they are in their pains. Both have lost love and made terrible bargains with their lives. But perhaps they can help each other and maybe become friends along the way. Abraxos is a survivor but it seems that he is only deadly when there is need and the rest of the time he is like Felix the Bull happy to sniff flowers in the meadow. Abraxos makes Manon likable as they become a team there is perhaps a hint of something redeemable in Manon that might come out later. Personally, I adored the new cast of characters. They offered us so much more, in terms of both the people we are following and the storyline. They were all a lot of fun. Some grew on me more than others did, but I enjoyed where each of their storylines went. They all opened up so many different aspects to the overarching story, each promising something new for the future books. Moreover, through having the characters in difference places it meant they were all given an equal amount of attention as the chapters changed from one to the other to keep us in the loop of what was going on. All I want," he snarled, "is for my people to be free and my queen restored to her throne.""They burned the antler throne, Aedion. There is no throne for her.""Then I'll build one myself from the bones of our enemies." Sorcha was alright as a character. I liked her and Dorian together though and wished that ending had been different. Chaol was right when he said the kingdom could use a healer as a Queen. Aedion is a very interesting character. His loyalty to Aelin is endearing. His ability to play the submissive king's general is impressive. I really can't wait to see if he survives past the next book and joins Rowan in Aelin's court. Can you imagine those two in her court protecting her and fighting alongside her? While there is a large focus on Celaena herself, Maas also starts brewing trouble in places Celaena is not even in. Chaol begins to question everything he's ever been trained to know about Adarlan--and also wonders if he's going to follow through with the deal he made with his father to return to his homeland and become the Lord of Anielle whilst giving up his honorable position as Captain of the Guard. Dorian is wondering how much more of his father's dictatorship and oppression he can take, especially when he has two secrets that are imperative to keep hidden from him. Either one of them could ruin him and earn him exile at the least-- and at worst, he'll be digging his own grave if either one is found out. Most of Celaena’s part in the story is coming to terms with her destiny and who she really is. You can change your name but that doesn’t mean it won’t find you again. She is desperately holding onto the idea that she can escape that name and the burden of rule that comes with it.

Another thing that was amazing was Aelin’s and Rowan’s friendship. It does develop into a romantic relationship I know, but it was just so pure and refreshing here. Both of them, broken and scarred people, finding happiness again by helping each other… And I’m glad that it’s not that insta-love rubbish, because nothing, nothing, puts me off more. True love after you just meet a person? *scoffs* This is how it’s supposed to be. Respect and friendship. It seems perfectly reasonable that they should fall in love in the near future, after truly knowing each other.I feel like with every book, Sarah J Maas improves her writing to be ever more meticulous than the preceding installment. Her craft is expanding, and I love absolutely everything about it. Can't wait for the next book and also, her new series, A Court of Thorns and Roses! But in the end, she faced her demons. She accepted her fate. This challenge was woven seamlessly into the main plot. And the plot itself was gripping. My favorite moments were near the end, when Celaena faced Mave. I felt like she’d conquered something huge. It was extremely fulfilling. YIKES. Clearly Manon is more than just a surprisingly pretty face---she is clever and determined and ruthless . . . I'm fairly certain that she and Celaena would have been friends in another life. not Bookswagon, are responsible for the contents of your submission.
