About this deal

This book emphasises gesture, action and rhythm so that you can get lively drawings that leap out at your audience. This also keeps your artwork neat and tidy, and most importantly, polished. Step 2 – Outline of the Koala’s Head and Body

As you can tell this is much more of a woodsy type wildlife book so there is nothing about drawing sea creatures. But the details you do get are phenomenal along with very high quality photos. Drawing a horse is very challenging due to the complexity of its anatomy. But you can do it by simplify the design. To do that, you will work in large groups. Note the spinal cord, which starts at the top of the head and ends at the tail, and defines the horse’s posture. White-throated sparrows make great models when learning how to draw animals! They have leisurely feeding habits, keeping their movements slow with positions often repeated, and their rounded body shapes are simple in form. To sketch them, establish proportion and gesture with minimal indications of wings, tail and feet–sometimes just a few lines within a simple shape. Note the turn of the head, which adds to the options for developing a full pose later. Apply some tone over the line work to indicate surface markings, feather surface texture and shadows. Proceed by drawing a figure inside both ears following its outline. This forms the inside or inner ear of the koala. The book is filled with notes and anatomy sketches for these imaginary creatures so you can see how they might be imagined in the mind of a professional artist. These diagram sketches include the bones and muscles so you can even understand the movement patterns of these creatures.Proceed by drawing an uneven U-shaped curve right underneath the koala’s head. The figure should be wider at the bottom. This creates the body of the koala, which is directly connected to its head.

Life drawing techniques are always valuable for studying any subject. But the intricacies of animal anatomy are most often learned from books. The reason for that would be that you can erase these lines later once you have added your final lines. Looking at this koala, you can see how you could simplify it into simpler shapes. Then, on the bottom of the leg, draw another diagonal oval shape with three connected curves at the top. At this point, both legs and feet of the koala are now complete. The drawings in this book are so lively and animated, they truly cover the personality of each animal. For those of us who use photographs as references, Joe encourages us to use them as a tool and to study from nature as often as possible. He also insists that as artists we need to keep a sketchbook and draw regularly. If there are no animals, sketch people or landscapes, they are organic forms after all. Draw two elongated U-shaped curved lines side by side within the outline of the koala’s body. This forms both arms of the koala. Over 300 different animal case studies are used throughout the book to illustrate drawing techniques. The three main animals covered are carnivores/omnivores, smaller mammals, and hoofed mammals. Draw a semicircle on the right side of the koala’s lower body. This forms the right leg of the koala. Hopefully, you enjoy this step-by-step animals drawing tutorial. Now that you can draw a koala, perhaps you can draw a koala clinging onto a branch of a tree next?
