About this deal

One of the great heroes of Middle-earth, Elrond is getting not one but two new models, both mounted and on foot, in the intricate and ornate armour he wore during the War of the Last Alliance. As a great Elven Hero, he is accompanied by a loyal High Elf bannerman bearing the banner of Gil-galad. MEDIA: Mustering an Army, Episode 12: Isengard, Making Dunland Work, Know Thine Enemy: Saruman, Know Thine Enemy: Vrasku, and Scenario Spotlight: Scouring of the Westfold (Green Dragon Podcast, *Pre-MESBG) Interestingly, you do also get this fellow in the Elrond set. The High Elf Warrior With Banner could well be the start of a revamp for The Last Alliance range as a whole.

This is dead on 500 points and involves buying two blisters (Mordor Orc Command and Orc Shaman on Warg, both useable in most armies with Mordor Orcs in). This is one of the cheapest expansions to the battleforce, because the Witch King (tooled up here to murder enemy heroes and break lines) is so pricy. Join the ranks of the fallen Istari Saruman, one of the most powerful Wizards in Middle-earth™, as he personally leads the Isengard Battlehost of Uruk-hai Scouts and Uruk-hai Warriors, followed by his faithful minion, Gríma Wormtongue. So, quite a few reveals from Games Workshop this weekend. I think this is moving things in the right direction when it comes to Middle-earth, offering up lots of fun sets that are designed to get newcomers into the game and those returning after many years away. A few tasty morsels are also there for us Middle-earth veterans like Elrond and Glorfindel...tempting us to start entirely new armies. To win tough battles in the Horus Heresy, you’ll need all the help you can get, and this set of 24 Age of Darkness Reference Cards keep your Reactions, Psychic Powers, Psychic Weapons, and Core Warlord Traits close at hand. There’s never been a better time for a foray into the world of Middle-earth ™ Strategy Battle Game, with the loaded Lord of the Rings ™ Battle of Osgiliath boxed set on the horizon, alongside a range of four Battlehosts. This battleforce contains a massive 48 plastic Citadel Miniatures including Saruman, either mounted or on foot with his Palantír on a plinth, the loathsome Gríma Wormtongue, 24 Uruk-hai Scouts and 20 Uruk-hai Warriors. Allies add some good variety to Gondor forces, with the Fiefdoms being the obvious choice to add a warband from.

Boromir looks good for fighting Uruks, but not for fighting Saruman - a Sorcerous Blast at an angle targeting a model standing next to Boromir will send him to the ground, rendering the banner useless. Though Boromir is affected, he wasn't the target and so cannot roll to resist. This battleforce contains 48 plastic Citadel miniatures for use in games of Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game and is an ideal way for existing players to bolster their forces, or for new collectors to get into the game. Similarly an Assault on Helm’s Deep Legendary Legion, which plays well at the higher points totals, would take the armoured Uruk Hai as a core. Weakness: Courage (in certain builds). Let me caveat this by saying that no Isengard force that includes one or more of (a) Courage 7 Berserkers / Courage 5 Ferals, (b) Fearless Wildmen with the Wildman Oathmaker, (c) Bodyguard Dunland Huscarls, (d) an Isengard Shaman with Fury up, or (e) Ugluk, will struggle with courage. The problems come when you build lists around orcs (Snaga, Sharku, warg riders, orc warriors), around mid-tier Uruk-Hai heroes (Vrasku and Mauhur only have Courage 4) without taking that Uruk-Hai Shaman, or a pure Dunland force that doesn't include the Oathmaker (Thrydan, Gorulf, and Frida are all Courage 4, while Wildmen and Dunnlendings are only Courage 3 base). If the enemy has Harbinger of Evil or Ancient Evil those 4s become 3s, those 3s become 2s, and those 2s become 1s, none of which are great. What sort of models do you tend to use? Is there a particular Isengard strategy that is giving you problems? With the 20th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers™ just around the corner, and plenty of other Middle-earth buzz going on, there’s never been a better time to get into the game. There are lots of ways to do it too – whether you want to play the game casually or competitively, or simply collect and paint the models, this hobby has something for everyone! Collect
