The sleek design of the sound bar blends seamlessly with my TV, and the build quality is top-notch. The remote control is intuitive, and I appreciate the option to control it through my smartphone using the JBL app. The JBL Bar 5.1’s remote control feels light, plastic and – frankly – cheap. Nevertheless, it works fine and keeps buttons to a minimum while still offering everything you could want. I like the easy access of the audio sync timing with a plus and minus option. The problem occurs when trying to find that same balanced sound at lower levels. If you drop the volume below a certain level, you’ll struggle to hear voices – unless in voice mode specifically. This isn’t ideal, however: voice mode does movies with recent effects no justice at all. The JBL Bar 5.1 is great for movies and ideal for music. The subtle bass from the sub adds just enough to feel dramatic, while the punchy mids make for clear voices amid movie sound effects.

To put it in Wi-fi set up mode, you hold the power button down until you see “Setup Wifi” on the LED display. (I couldn’t get this to appear on the unit I tested, but was able to connect to Wi-fi anyway). Go to your Wifi settings screen on your phone and select the soundbar. Then launch Google Home and add the speaker to your account. After you do this, you can play audio via Chromecast or AirPlay 2. You can also pair the speaker with your phone via Bluetooth. If audio quality is important to you, you’d probably be better off going for a system like the Samsung HW-MS650. That doesn’t have the surround sound features of the Bar 5.1, but does have an impressive dynamic range. If however, you’re the type of person who's going to use your soundbar as the main sound system for your living room, this is not the device for you. The whole system was simple to setup. In fact, the challenge was in getting it all out of the box – a step that comes with it own instructions. Yes, really. If you have a slim TV and need a means to make the audio bigger and better, the JBL Bar 5.1 is a really great option that will continue to give on many levels. You shouldn’t buy the JBL Bar 5.1 if… If you find that those rear speakers aren’t providing a big enough surround sound effect, there is an option to turn up the “wireless surround” on the remote. That appears to have the effect of making those rear speakers louder, as the setup favours the rear a little more. Again, this is great for louder effects but it drowns out voices; it’s a balancing act, if the volume is below a certain level. As a soundbar with a subwoofer this system is fine, giving a room-filling sound for those who want to keep the setup super-minimal. But if you want real surround sound then you simply pull out the end speakers, held in place via magnets, and place them at the rear of the room. Die abnehmbaren Satelliten sind genial. Mehr gibt's nicht zu sagen entweder als True Surround Speaker Oder einfach auf Music geschalten und mit aufs Bett genommen. The headline feature of the JBL Bar 5.1 has to be the transformation between a 2.1 and 5.1 sound system. This is brilliant – it really works.

The JBL Bar 5.1 is clearly designed for one specific audience: movie fans. The bass capabilities and sharp trebles mean you get both satisfying room-rattling sound, and crystal-clear dialogue.Dass man zu so einem System eine Fernbedienung wie zur 11€ LED-Lichterkette von Alibaba Hongkong ausliefert, finde ich persönlich schwach. Meine Meinung.

Our soundbar kits are also available with subwoofers, 2, 3 and 5.1 surround sound and also a compact range of TV speakers too. Find The Best Soundbars On Sale Today Sound bar manufacturers are not just pushing limits these days. The are constantly innovating and extending their limits. For example, JBL offers a 5.1 channel JBl Bluetooth Soundbar that has two detachable, (rechargeable) battery-powered, wireless surround speakers. Each detachable unit offers 10 hours of play time. This is perfect for a situation in which the room you have is too small for a full-size 5.1 home theater system. With this JBL Bluetooth Soundbar, just detach the left and right speakers, place them further apart for greater separation and boom: enjoy your movie time with cinema-like surround sound. In reality, it doesn’t appear to change the sound much to the listener, so that seems to be a good thing – how well it works for others is another matter. JBL Bar 5.1 performance – A room-shaking experience If your TV has HDMI ARC, just connect your TV to the soundbar’s HDMI out port via an HDMI cable. Make sure your TV sound is set to HDMI ARC, and it should work. Alternatively you can use the optical digital audio output from your TV or connect a set top box directly to the soundbar.A night mode essentially squishes the dynamic range to avoid sudden spikes in volume. This is meant to make sounds less pervasive around the house, and allow others in the home to get on with what they’re doing, without being distracted by hordes of the undead bearing down on their ears as you watch Walking Dead in the other room. Paid Installations for Air Conditioners and Chimneys. For Brand provided AC installations, service charges will have to be paid to the brand technician directly For us, this feature proved a little redundant, and the bar’s ‘intelligent’ switching whenever we used our phone during a movie meant that the sound often cut out to favor the phone, even when there wasn’t anything playing on the phone. Performance This strength is also a weakness though, as it means it has weak mids, and the ‘gap’ that some systems have between mids and bass is very noticeable when you're trying to listen to music on the soundbar.

If you’re the type of person who wants to immerse yourself in the world of a film with the minimum of fuss, wires, and set-up, the JBL Bar 5.1 is exactly what you’re looking for. It does a fantastic job of bringing out dialogue, and across every film we tried, we were deeply impressed with the surround sound capabilities. JBL’s Bar 5.1 Surround may not offer true 5.1 surround sound, but its virtual version is an excellent approximation. Its giant subwoofer can rumble the floor during action sequences and adds depth to voices. Overall, it’s a solid mid-priced soundbar —one of few on the market in this price range. While it was harder to set up properly than most soundbars, that should be a one-time pain.If you want the minimalism of a soundbar but the immersion of a surround sound system, plus a Bluetooth speaker, the JBL Bar 5.1 is for you. It’s capable of a big, bassy sound that makes action movies more intense and sports more immersive. If, however, you’re looking for an alternative to a wired-in surround sound system because you haven’t got the space, or would rather have the flexibility of not always having satellite speakers sitting behind you, the JBL Bar 5.1 is a very tempting option.
