About this deal

For many years the school has run an after-school board game club, once a week, for an hour. Having found out about this late afternoon activity and with my interest piqued, I thought I would pop along and see what was on the timetable for the day. Lesson One: There’s nothing wrong with Chess The second reason I would steer away from the original box is that of the 300 questions, I would expect only 60-70 that a 10 year might possibly know (literally just went through them all). Noted that the age on the box is 12+, and this is the rare case of a games publisher probably pitching it about right – although do be aware even 14 or 15 year olds won’t get a lot of the cultural, cinematic or musical references on the question cards. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. Enter the four editions of Colourbrain (yes four currently): Colourbrain original, Colourbrain Mini, Colourbrain Junior and Disney Colourbrain.

The age recommendation for Junior ColourBrain is 6+. Disney ColourBrain is recommended for 8+. My personal opinion is that those recommendations should be the other way around. My 5 year old daughter loves the Disney version (and regularly destroys me at it!) whereas some of the questions in Junior left her a little flummoxed. If you don't visit us very often, or your visits are too irregular to warrant a membership then these tokens bundles are a great shout. We know we have a great community behind us. The consistent message I've heard over the last year and a bit has been, "what can we do? We're here when you need us." For all of the above reasons, unless you’re playing with adults or teaming younger players with adults my recommendation would be to go for the Junior or Disney versions – it’ll be more of a level playing field (or possibly weighted in their favour!).

Components needed to be sufficiently robust and sizeable so that their loss would be noticed. Similarly, larger components might be noticed by cleaning staff and moved, rather than removed. Great for big groups: Perfect for a kid's birthday party or family get-together as up to four teams can play, with at least three or four in each team. You can claim everything at once and make an afternoon/evening of it, or pop in several times over the two weeks.

Family Bundle - OK Play, P for Pizza, Dino Dump, The Muddles, Junior Colourbrain & a potato plushie Our stairwell mural has been the subject of much admiration, and now you can have a piece of it at home! Benjamin Wright has taken inspiration from the characters and pieces he created for the stairwell to produce this gorgeous print. How often have you mislaid a single component, and a game is no longer playable? However careful pupils might be, there is always a danger of smaller pieces being missed during set down. Occasionally components might fall under a table and be forgotten. That might be fine at home but with the school being cleaned and vacuumed every evening any dropped pieces will be lost forever.

Next Day Delivery

Irrespective of which version you settle on, there really are minimal components which makes it perfect for holidays or when in transit (on rail, ferry or flight). To travel light, you could do away with the box, pop a pile of question cards in an elastic band along with the colour cards and hey presto – low fi Colourbrain holiday version.

Some of the best games for children and teenagers are those that teach a new skill, but in such a fun way that the gamers are so caught up in the game that the “educational” element is second nature. Board gamers all vouch for the skills that develop with regular gameplay – negotiation, reasoning, planning etc. The pupils have warmed to Dragonwood. Six can play as there are sufficient cards. The element of a mythical quest is fun and the scoring of the defeated beasts during end game scoring always brings a sense of competition. The dice are large, and with a specific slot in the box for each, it is clear when a component is missing. Together, we've built a great community since we opened in August 2019. Twist is a truly unique space for Plymouth. We really want to see everyone again when we reopen, but are conscious the pandemic may have made a visit to Twist less financially feasible for some. If we successfully reach our target, we'll be creating a Community Fund. That’s the core concept for Colourbrain (or Colorbrain as our letter-efficient transatlantic cousins call it) from Big Potato Games, where Players compete individually, or in teams to recall the colours of things– well-known brands, film & TV characters and other commonplace objects in the hope of being the first to reach 10 points. Colourbrain crosses countries in its scope. Some questions such as “What are the colours on the Swedish flag?” [yellow and blue] may be known by some. “What colour comes before amber in a traffic light sequence?” [green] will need a little UK knowledge. The components are just a series of colour cards and set of questions.Another game that's perfect for taking away with you, it's aimed at age 7+ and can be played with up to six players. When playing with adults and children we'll team up to make it fairer and each game lasts up to around half an hour.
