About this deal

Other great features include nice color and contrast rendering. The 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary is also highly resistant to flare. There’s some vignetting at f1.4 but it’s not out of the ordinary. Stopping down helps, and by f2.8, it’s mostly gone. There is slight barrel distortion but not something that is an issue. It’s not uncommon to see a little in a wide angle lens. It focuses to within inches of the front of the lens. Rated at 6"/0.15m from the image plane, that means about 2"/6cm from the front of the lens: From Sigma lens literature) The SIGMA Corporation is pleased to announce the development of a new high-performance, large-diameter wide-angle lens, SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. Field Test Summary The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is fast, well-built and a good value

A bright prime lens is the ideal way to experience the essence of the art of photography. Simply select a focal length that matches the image and enjoy complete control of the depth of field. I see a little spherochromatism, also called color bokeh by hobbyists. This means that out-of-focus highlights may take on slight color fringes. Let’s take a look at the autofocus now: the 16mm f1.4 uses a stepping motor that delivers fast and near silent autofocus. I found it to be essentially drama free when used with my X-T3. It was also very accurate with missed shots rarely happening. This is a wide angle lens, so even with the f1.4 aperture, there is still a larger depth of field. However, when you start shooting closer, the depth of field does thin out, and this lens was always on point. The rounded 9-blade diaphragm makes no sunstars at large apertures, however it becomes straight as stopped down and can make great sunstars on brilliant points of light at f/16.For one, the 16mm f1.4 Contemporary produces photos that incredibly sharp. Photos are so crisp, and clean with such beautiful depth to them. At f1.4, center sharpness is excellent with even edges holding up quite well. Of course, as you stop down just a bit, sharpness improves. If you’re a pixel peeper, I think the sweet spot for sharpness is around f5.6 to f8 but with that said, don’t be afraid to use it throughout the aperture range because the end results are always impressive. Weighing in at 405g and measuring 9.23cm in length, the Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN C is quite a compact lens given its fast f/1.4 aperture. As seen in the photos below, it complements a camera like the new Panasonic G9 very well. f/1.4: Palm, 28 August 2015. ( Fuji X-T10, XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR at f/1.4 at 1/1,800 at ISO 200, Perfectly Clear V2.) Full resolution. Warning; at f/1.4 almost nothing is in focus. The Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN C ships with a good quality plastic circular-shaped lens hood. It accepts 67mm filters. Sell the kit you’re not using to MPB. Trade in for the kit you need to create. Sharpness remains very good across the whole image frame, right into the corners (Image credit: Matthew Richards) As we’ve seen with an increasing number of Sigma’s Global Vision lenses for Canon DSLRs, this new M-mount lens is preloaded with data for enabling in-camera corrections for aberrations like peripheral illumination, chromatic aberration and diffraction, where featured in the host camera. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN | C: Performance In summary, an excellent overall performance and a very fine lens, living up to its claim to be almost on a par with the Sigma Art range. As we found with the other mounts, image quality is great with a high level of sharpness and pleasing bokeh in out of focus areas when used at the widest aperture of f/1.4. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lens for Nikon DX users who want an excellent portrait lens, and I’d probably also say it’s worth full-frame users considering it too if they want something more affordable and lighter than Nikon’s closest equivalent. It pairs quite well with a Sony camera and doesn't look dissimilar from some of Sony's own lenses. The large focus ring has a rubberized finish and feels very nice to use, plus it's wide at just under a couple inches (around 50 millimeters). The lens looks good and balances well with the A6500. Edge sharpness is also creditable, being very good from f/1.4 to f/2.8, excellent at f/4 and f/5.6 and then very good at f/8 and f/11. Results are softer at the edges at f/16, but can still be described as good. In April 2023, Sigma announced it would be making three of its “Contemporary” prime lenses available for the Nikon Z mount – the first Sigma lenses to do this. Amy Davies spent some time using the new lenses to see how well they work with Nikon Z. Personally I rarely shoot with this 24mm-equivalsnt focal length; I prefer the 23mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses which see more as I do, and if I want wide, I use the 10-24mm f/4 OIS.
