About this deal

The RXP will suit runners looking for Reactive Lighting at an affordable price and who don’t need too much battery life. But using it whilst wearing gloves is likely to make you wish you’d spent a little bit more on its big brother the Nao. Overall, it has decent light output and the Reactive Lighting system is a really neat idea. Unfortunately the Tikka RXP is let down by an over-complicated control system with hard to use buttons and odd sequences. We’d suggest splashing out a little more for the Nao. Full Specifications The MH3 can be worn on the head or chest, which makes it a pretty versatile beast. Powered by a single AA battery and with a low battery indicator to keep you up to speed, this headlamp delivers up to 200 lumens max output. This light can be focused with a simple, intuitive, twist of the bezel. It can also be tilted within a 60° angle and has a maximum light distance of 130 metres (at a real stretch). The optimum light distance is about 40 metres, meaning the way ahead is still well lit whichever setting you have it on. The head torch has a maximum burn time of 35 hours, with the lowest settings activated, and a minimum burn time of 4.5 hours. In fact, we can only applaud Silva for their use of materials like recycled polyester and natural hemp, which is a first for this sector of the outdoor industry. We hope to see more of the tech-focused outdoor brands follow suit in the near future. With three AAA batteries the Spot 325 is able to offer 200 hours of power on the lowest (8 lumens) power mode and four hours of charge on the higher (325 lumens) mode. A feature we were big fans of on the Spot 325 was the IPX8 waterproof rating. This means that you’ll be able to submerge it 1 metre underwater for up to 30 minutes and it’ll keep powering on – not bad. Full Specifications

Admittedly, the Terra Scout headtorches are not quite as powerful or as fully-featured as some we’ve tested in the past. But for most adventurers, 350 lumens will be more than enough power to find your way, no matter how dark it is out there. So, they are still eminently practical headtorches that are lightweight, compact and easy to use, whilst also scoring highly for sustainability and versatility. And we’ve nothing but compliments for the drybags, which do the job whilst being considerably more eco-friendly than most rivals on the market. A head torch's ruggedness is heavily influenced by its IP (ingress protection) rating. The IP is followed by two digits - the first determining dust protection (scale of 0 to 6), the second against moisture (scale of 0 to 9). Head torches don't often have a first digit in their IP rating, and instead, use an 'X'. This means they haven't been tested against dust protection, but this doesn't necessarily matter if the head torch has good moisture protection (IPX4 or more) because it should result in good dust proofing too. How much should my head torch weigh? Terra Scout headtorches use recycled plastic and a hemp headband, which has resulted in a carbon footprint reduction of 90% from older models. The colours of the headtorches also tell a story as the plastic body is uncoloured, due to the non-dyed materials creating a much lower carbon footprint. Whether you’re getting an early Alpine start to reach a mountain summit as the sun rises, heading out on a night hike or just settling down in your tent for the night – the value of head torches (or head lamps, as our U.S. friends call them) cannot be underestimated – especially when the days get shorter and the dark nights start to draw in.Otherwise, we’ve seen no reason to doubt the long-term durability of this head torch. Is it good value? Silva's Scout 3XT is a versatile, lightweight, 350 lumen headtorch with night vision mode suitable for everyday outdoor adventures. Silva says:

This is an easy-to-use headlamp. The large on/off button makes it easy to operate the headlamp even when wearing gloves and the battery level indicator informs about the remaining charge level when turned off. Furthermore, Terra Scout XT is water resistant according to IPX5 standard. The low weight of the headlamp and the wide headband ensure a comfortable fit even during long hikes and activities.Max output 1000 lumens / Uses 18650 Rechargeable Li-ion battery or 2 x CR123 cells / 5 brightness levels, ranging from 1 to 1000 lumens, plus a strobe, SOS and location beacon / Auxiliary red and white light / Built-in micro USB charging circuit / Max burn time of 800 hrs on ultralow (1 lumen) setting / Max beam distance 110 metres / Waterproof to IPX8 and resistant to impacts up to 1.5 metres. Choose a brighter future and make a difference with the more sustainable Terra Scout H. This headlamp is made of plant fibers from hemp and recycled plastics – a material that has up to 90% lower CO2 footprint compared to standard plastics. TWO LED LIGHT COLOURS Beam Width and Distance: The width and distance of the beam are a big factor. Many brands now have models that allow you to select between a wider (and less focused) beam, or a focused beam (but narrower). It’s a great feature to be able to change the width and distance of the beam to suit different environments. The best head torches will strike an optimum balance between battery life (or burn time) and brightness, and will also need to meet other considerations like overall reach, water and dust proofing, comfort, usability and of course, price.
