About this deal

Widow Jane is one of the great whiskeys we’ve tasted. The 10-year bourbon has deep cherry notes with a slightly tannic finish. Bird Dog is a ten-year bourbon crafted and aged to ensure that the depth of flavor notes and character of the bourbon is paramount. The mash bill of Widow Jane is undisclosed, but since it is straight bourbon, it should contain at least 51% corn [ 1]. All in all, a very complex, unique flavor that deserves extra attention. Taste 5: Christopher Osburn

From single barrel to BiB bourbons, we hope that you find our list helpful for your bourbon hunting. I gave this bourbon such high marks because of just how much it brought out of being good, plain old fashioned bourbon. Everything about it is pretty much what I expect from the benchmark experience, only more so. It isn’t especially sophisticated or robust, nor does it have any trademark outlier notes. Instead, it’s just a mighty fine example of what bourbon is stereotyped as, taking what is expected and doing it very well. Better than average mouthfeel. Dark bitter chocolate, peanuts, toffee, orange, sweet powdered sugar. Finish

Excerpt: Widow Jane 10 Year Single Barrel is a good reminder that no matter how you start, it’s how you finish that’s remembered, and sadly this pour stumbles across the finish line. However, Heaven Hill Distillery has aged its bourbon for a decade, and critics will agree that it is a perfectly balanced bourbon. This classic bourbon opens with aromas of caramel, dried cherries, vanilla, corn, roasted nuts, and oak. It also has a slight hint of apple and raisins. This whiskey does give off the scent of ethanol at all. As it goes down your nose, the dark stone fruit smells become more pronounced. You may notice cacao powder notes as well. Overall the nose has everything you would want to have in a bourbon flavor whiskey. Smell

Wild Turkey is a big name in the bourbon world. But sometimes it doesn’t get the respect it deserves. This is why it launched Russell’s Reserve a few years ago. The shining star of the brand is its 10-year-old expression. This 90-proof, high-corn bourbon is the culmination of almost 100 years of distilling experience between father and son duo Jimmy and Eddie Russell. In fact, whether any water from that location is used in the manufacturing process at all is disputed. From a 2013 article, the historical society who owns the mine went out of their way to debunk the claim stating that there was no known commercial agreement between the mine and Widow Jane. In this whiskey review, we’ll take a look at a bourbon that has generated a lot of buzz in the nine years or so since it was first launched — Widow Jane 10 Year Old Blend of Straight Bourbons. Heaven’s Door 10-year bourbon is a limited-release Tennessee whiskey with a rich, complex, and smooth flavor profile. Sourced” shouldn’t be a bad word in the whiskey world and brands like Widow Jane are proving it. Its 10-year-old expression has won numerous awards over the years. The brand’s flagship bourbon, this expression is a marriage of Widow Jane’s rarest and most exciting sourced whiskeys.Generally speaking, bourbon hits a sweet spot around ten years old. It’s sort of a demarcation point between the cheaper, small-batch, bottled-in-bond stuff and the single barrels, unicorns, and super old stuff (think 20-plus years). Bourbon whiskeys around ten years old (or maybe a couple of years older) are a little more expensive, a little more refined, and a little more extra but they’re not always harder to find. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.

Lovely bourbon and a great blend. Maybe a bit sweeter than I expected but I really liked the character and the blending skills. I will also try to sip other batches as I want to trace the consistency between batches too, which I think is important for signature bottles in the core range. Widow Jane does actively distill in its facility. While those barrels will not have been old enough to make it into the current 10-year blend — remember, it opened in 2012 — those barrels may eventually make it into future batches as they reach the maturation threshold. Widow Jane 12 Year Old — A single barrel straight bourbon whiskey offering bottled at 99-proof. Look at the LabelI don’t appreciate the bait-and-switch marketing. I get that they’re a small distillery in New York, but if you’re going to market yourself as a locally produced Brooklyn, NY spirit then you should probably do a little more than add a splash of water from Poughkeepsie. The brand offers single-barrel bourbons and other selections, but you should not miss out on this 10-year-old bourbon. 3. Bulleit Bourbon 10 Year It is sweet, well spiced, and has a mellow character because it contains rye on its mash bill. 1. Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year The bourbon tastes the smoothest at around eight to twelve years. The bourbons aged between the given range are smoother than younger and older ones because they are bourbons’ soft spots.

Overall the flavors are a mix of caramel, dried berries, dates, toasted oak, tobacco, cinnamon, clove, and chocolate. It tastes like an Armagnac finished bourbon, even though it is not. The Widow Jane Bourbon is a mix of many flavors and is well-balanced. Finish Batch / Bottle / Date — We must note that the bottle sampled for this review was from Batch #308, bottled in 2021. The term ‘small batch bourbon’ is not regulated by the TTB. Some brands may dump hundreds or thousands of barrels for each batch and still use that term on the label. But Widow Jane states it is comprised of 5-barrel batches. That’s an extremely small batch. Because only 5 barrels of bourbon are dumped, each batch will have slightly different characteristics based on the unique flavor profile of each component whiskey in the blend.

Widow Jane Aged 10 Years – Review

Take one sip and the first thing you’ll notice is the distinct burning of alcohol, which is present from start to finish. It’s particularly strong for 45.5% ABV. As for the rest, there was so little distance between them quality-wise. Another day, another lineup, and any one of these bottles could have ended up on top. But not today. Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. The velvety entry is on the spot because of its well-balanced sweetness that is warm, slightly dry, and covers the mid-palate. 12. Clyde May’s 10-Year Cask Strength Bourbon The source of the dilution water is from the Widow Jane limestone mine that gives the brand its name.
