About this deal

According to the laws that govern Tequila, if you let it age in an oak barrel between 1 and 3 years it becomes an Añejo; beyond that, it becomes an Extra-Añejo which is tequila’s first class. Does it use additives?

I really liked the silver version of this spirit in a margarita, and I’ve liked other anejo-based margaritas (for example, El Jimador Anejo). In this case, though… not so much. The insights I’ve gained aren’t just from books or hearsay; they are the result of hands-on experience, countless tastings, and an enduring passion for these spirits. While legally allowed to be labeled as Tequila, these blends can be unpleasant and lead to unpleasant side effects. Is it good for sipping? My education and training include a thorough knowledge of agave spirits creation from planting agaves to bottling, including distillation. Bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV)in the United States, Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia but at a mere 76 proof (38% ABV) in Mexico. I’m J Highland, and for over 30 years, I’ve been deeply immersed in the captivating world of Tequila, Mezcal, and other agave spirits.

In 1758, Don José Antonio de Cuervo was granted a plot of land in the (soon to be Mexican) town of Tequila. Here, he would build a farm with his family where they would cultivate the blue agave plant that was native to the area and, in 1795, the family distilled and produced their first bottle of mezcal (side note for those who don’t quite understand the differentiation: scotch is to whiskey as tequila is to mezcal). When serving it, make sure to use large ice cubes to avoid dilution, as watered-down Tequila is not ideal. While it may not rank among the top Añejo Tequilas, 1800 Añejo is one of the best affordable Añejos available. How to drink it?It exceeded my expectations as I thought it would be mediocre considering it is part of the 1800 lineup. Unfortunately, it has become common practice in the industry to use additives to standardize the aroma and flavor of Tequilas. Añejo, like most agave spirits, is low in sugar content, making it a good choice for those who are trying to lose weight.

Unlike bourbon, rye whiskey, or Scotch, which can benefit from a drop of water, Tequila does not improve with added water. The 1800 Tequila brand was formed as a subset of Jose Cuervo in 1975. Produced at the same facility and using the same materials as the famous Jose Cuervo tequila, this brand was designed to produce a superior sipping spirit for the higher end market. The 1800 date comes from the first year when oak barrels were first used to age tequila. Product Here, I’m not just sharing opinions; I’m weaving tales from the rich tapestry of my experiences over these three decades. However, once the bottle is opened, it’s recommended to finish it before it reaches 25% of its content as the Tequila tends to develop an unappetizing taste. Alcohol content In terms of aging, the four main types of tequila are Blanco (0-59 days), Reposado (60+ days), Añejo (1-3 years), and Extra Añejo (3+ years). Blanco tequilas do not spend time aging in oak, whereas the other three categories do.
