Please arrive at the rink 15-30 minutes before your session start time to allow ample time to put your skates on and store any belongings. On all outdoor ice rinks there is a risk of getting soggy as there is often surface water on the ice. If you fall over, you will probably get wet so you may wish to bring a change of trousers, just in case. You can skate on our rink up to any age, although you are responsible for skating and it is not recommended for anyone with serious illness, heart conditions or pregnant mothers to be. Ice Marshalls are present at the rink during all sessions and you are required to adhere to the safe skating guidelines. Bob skates help young kids with their mobility on the ice. They help keep young children from worrying about falling and thus make skating less intimidating. Removing the water from the surface is counterproductive as it removes the layer of cold water that is insulating the ice below it. That exposes the ice to further melting, and affects the ice depth.Bags of any description are not allowed on the ice. Please ensure you only bring essential items with you to the rink as storage space is limited in the cloakrooms. Cloakrooms are used entirely at your own risk. The location of the skating rink is in our North Car Park (in front of PlayZone), with the entrance near of coach park. Our advanced cooling equipment keeps the rinks frozen and operational in most weather conditions. In the unlikely event that extreme weather conditions force us to close the rink, before your session, we’ll arrange for you to book into an alternative session, subject to availability. There are nine disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders in the Palace car park, available on a first come first served basis. These parking spaces are free for blue badge holders. It’s perfectly safe to skate on a wet rink, but it might be uncomfortable if you fall over – and you will get wet if it’s raining! It can also be slippery when getting up if you fall, which is why we recommend wearing gloves. Our rink team will do our utmost to accommodate you if you are running late, although we can’t guarantee we can get you on the ice if it’s a peak session that is at full capacity.
