John?” Without looking, he knew she was grinning. Ancient and powerful, this woman radiated the contagious joy of a child. With one arm she pulled him to her, kissing the top of his head. But unfortunately, being of reproductive age is anywhere from, like, 12 or 13, to in your early 50s," Bohannon says. "So that's the majority of our lives. That's a big gap." The container seems to have been used to transport people great distances, probably on a large vessel or ship. Since no flotsam drifted with it, we surmise it was purposefully jettisoned, but not before the girls inside were executed. If there is any mercy in such a tragedy . . .” Her voice hesitated as emotion found its way. Eve is a bold, unprecedented exploration of the Creation narrative, true to the original texts and centuries of scholarship—yet with breathtaking discoveries that challenge traditional beliefs about who we are and how we’re made. Eve opens a refreshing conversation about the equality of men and women within the context of our beginnings, helping us see each other as our Creator does—complete, unique, and not constrained by cultural rules or limitations. Bohannon notes that historically, many clinical drug trials involving human subjects omitted female patients who were of child-bearing age, out of concern for the impact on a potential fetus.

The hold was about a third full of larger items—boxes, mats, plastic containers—along with litter and bits and pieces of trash, a hodgepodge he would have to go through at some point. Frozen bloodstains were scattered around the metallic tomb, the walls, the floor. Carefully, he stepped around these, every sound he made reverberating in the stillness. An enticing, chilling plot, captivating characters and prose beautiful enough to totally lose yourself in

I would have liked to see more of the book, but I felt the main focus was on the sisters and their reactions. The book had a ripple effect and some of the effects were deadly. This Historical Fiction is well written, the pacing is slow but it adds to the mystery and creates tension. A small girl is in a wreak and awakes to find herself on another plane of existence. This story reaks with allegory. Even the allegorys have allegorys to the point that there seems to be little or no reality that I can relate to. Y no penséis que es un libro que os volará la cabeza porque no creo que sea su función, pero sí es un libro con una intención muy concreta en la que realzar la sororidad entre las mujeres y, en cierta manera, el feminismo. Yes, you are,” she declared. “But we have long known there would be three in particular who would stand and represent us all. The one to whom was given the promise of the seed, the one whose seed would crush the serpent’s head, and the one to whom the seed would be forever united. The Mother, the Daughter, the Bride. The arrival of this girl marks the beginning of the end.”

A capacious investigation of women throughout time….Bohannon…creates a jaunty, digressive, and often whimsical tale examining the origins of some defining features of womanhood….Fascinating…Prodigious research informs a spirited history of humanity.” Don’t worry. The bodies have been transported to the Sanctuary of Sorrows and are being prepared for tomorrow’s celebration of fire. Right now, you must do what only you can do . . . so the Scavengers can dismantle and the Artists can find ways to memorialize these precious children.” The Binding meets The Handmaid's Tale - Discovering a book of dark and ancient power, a convent librarian must defend it with her life. Perfect for fans of dark academia and historical feminist fiction. The Book of Eve tells the story of Beatrice, who runs the convent’s library. Like many of us book lovers, she chooses her manuscripts & books over spending time with her sisters! As the pressure rises and Beatrice finds herself in danger, the author was able to capture unique character insights, like this gem: Kate Womersley is a doctor and academic specialising in psychiatry. Her work at Imperial College London focuses on sex and gender equity in biomedical research I just love that double-barrelled quote, don't you? The convent was a terrific setting, and I greatly enjoyed meeting some of the other sisters and learning the rhythms of life within the veritable safety of the convent walls. The political climate of the time in Italy was relatively familiar, having recently read other books set in Renaissance Florence, largely One Illumined Thread by Sally Colin-James (April 2023); The Brightest Star by Emma Harcourt (2022); and The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell (2022). If this tableau is newly familiar, it may be because Greta Gerwig restaged it in “Barbie,” imagining the moment with a doll instead of a weapon. But when Cat Bohannon, a narrative theorist and poet, rewrites the same scene, she has grander ambitions. She wants to change how we understand all of human evolution — to tear our eyes away from “the clever ape — always male” — and force us to consider the female of the species. How did our needs, and our anatomy, spark pivotal breakthroughs? What about the Dawn of Woman? A smart, funny, scientific deep-dive into the power of a woman’s body, Eve surprises, educates, and emboldens. Who runs the world? Girls!”
