The Citadel Skulls from the Warhammer basing materials range provides a set of highly detailed miniature skulls that are ideal for basing your miniatures. Phobosftw over on Dakkadakka revealed that the massive skull in this kit looks like it's the skull from a Dark Eldar Clawed Fiend. I've looked up pictures of the Clawed Fiend and it looks to me like it's a total match, except maybe for the size. I don't think the actual model is that large. Maybe it's the skull from an ancient Clawed Fiend? White Scar (Citadel) – A white paint color that you can use as a highlight for skulls and bone, or as the base coat for washes and shadesSeraphim Sepia (Citadel) – Similar to the Vallejo Sepia wash, but with a more matte finish; it may take several coats for proper darkness and depth with sepia washes The Morghast skull is extremely detailed and could make for some absolutely amazing Death conversions. I can see the skull being used for a head on Daemon Princes or maybe even 40k Dreadnoughts. You may have noticed a common theme amongst models and scenery pieces from the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar ranges - skulls. They're everywhere, decorating the walls of Khornate keeps and hanging from the belts of fearsome warriors. But we don't think there are enough skulls out there...Enter the Citadel Skulls. This is a box of 340 (yes, three hundred and forty!) plastic skulls, designed for the hobbyist to decorate scenery, bases and models as they see fit. There are even 20 extra jawbones! Here's a breakdown of the number and type of the 340 (!) skulls in the box:- 82 human skulls with jawbones;- 86 human skulls without jawbones;- 15 human jawbones;- 60 assorted damaged human skulls;- 2 giants' skulls;- 1 Morghast skull (in 2 components);- 1 beast skull (in 2 components);- 4 small horned skulls;- 4 medium horned skulls;- 3 large horned skulls;- 7 bird skulls;- 2 Chaos beast skulls;- 6 plague bearer skulls;- 6 Blood letter skulls;- 10 T'au skulls;- 5 Kroot skulls;- 6 alien skulls;- 21 Genestealer Hybrid skulls;- 20 Ork skulls without jaws;- 5 Ork jawbones;- 7 Ork skulls with jaws open;- 7 Ork skulls with jaws.- as well as 15 human jawbones;- 5 Ork jawbones. There are a lot of conversion opportunities presented in the Citadel Skull kit, so many that no one person can come up with all of them. That’s the beauty of our hobby, there doesn’t seem to be an end to the possibilities we can come up with.

There are a lot of options out there for skulls of humans, and even some for ork skulls. Sure, some of these kits are most specialized like the flaming skulls from GSW, and the skulls with bionics from Wargame Exclusive. For many that may be a significant difference, but comparing the price per skulls, product material, and variety of skull types the Citadel Skulls set blows them all out of the water. The Ur-goul skulls present a bit of a challenge as the details are sadly not very well defined. If I use these for a project, I will be using a very small drill to deepen the nasal holes on the skulls. They would make effective bases for building your own Ur-gouls if you were able to strategically use Greenstuff to soften the sharp edges of the skulls and complete the missing nostrils. They’re missing their lower jaws, but the human jawbones could be used to fill in for the missing parts. If we cannot deliver the goods within this time we will tell the consumer immediately and agree on another time for delivery. I highlighted the lenses with Mephiston Red, then old Blood Red [ Evil Sunz Scarlet], concentrating my highlights on the front and lower parts of the lenses.We also cannot forget the chance to use these skulls as decoration for armor. I mentioned this use in my last Bonelords progress blog post. I plan on using one to decorate some of the bear plasticard armor on my converted Exalted Deathbringer with Impaling Spear. I've shopped around for bulk numbers of skulls before this kit was released, and found a few companies that sell large numbers of skulls. Understandably, they are always in either metal or resin because plastic injection molding is still very expensive to get started. Skeletons. The ubiquitous fantasy baddie. Whether guarding some broke treasure in a cave or gathering by thousands at the will of a necromancer, skeletons have been striking terror into the hearts of the living for ages. In this article we will look at 28-32mm plastic skeleton infantry kits from Games Workshop, past and present, and kits that are commonly available from other manufacturers. First we’ll dig up skeletons from the Games Workshop vault and look at how they have progressed to the latest kit. In the second section we will explore the offerings of other miniature companies and offer a comparison of features and price. The Primaris Intercessor was primed with Mechanicus Standard Grey from Games Workshop, the armour then basecoated with a couple of thinned coats of Formula P3 Pig Iron [ Leadbelcher]. I like to add a little drop of Vallejo Game Color Glaze Medium or Lahmian Medium to thin metallic paints, in addition to a drop of water. Metallic paints tend to dry rather fast, and the Glaze Medium will help to create a smoother basecoat. Of course, you could also use Leadbelcher spray for basecoating, or even use an airbrush. I highlighted the polished metal with Army Painter Shining Silver [Runefang Silver or Stormhost Silver]. The Tyranid skulls have the same possible uses as the Tau skulls. I plan on using at least one of them as the head of a leader of a Death unit that I’ve been working on off and on. I will of course shave off the crest bone of the skull before adding them to the leader of the unit. I have a lot of plans for the kit and the possible conversions I can do with the contents. I'll be adding a reply to this post later detailing some of my thoughts because this initial post is going to be really long as it is. The Beastmen skulls are a great resource for one of the more common conversion styles found in the AoS28 community, building hybrid skeleton/Nurgle/dryad warbands for Hinterlands and AoS Skirmish. Most of them are too large to look convincing on groups of skeletons, but that’s never stopped a good conversion before. The skulls will also make great decorations for the now very powerful Herdstones of a Beastman army as well.As a note, you can paint the skulls or bones before or after the rest of the model. I find it easiest on most miniatures to paint bone material before I do metallic surfaces, since I’m able to use the shade wash with less concern with it spilling over into other areas. I can cover up any mess around the skull and bony parts when I paint other parts of the model. But we don’t think there are enough skulls out there… I layered RMS Polished Bone but only on the skull of the cheast eagle, then highlighted the whole chest eagle with Vallejo Model Color White [ White Scar, but VMC White is my favourite white when it comes to coverage].
