About this deal

Sometimes the Aire is just a parking area though without any service point. Then again, you can just get a service area without a parking area – this is called an Aire de Service de Camping Cars. 15. Are Motorhome Aires Free to use? French aires are pretty chilled, with lots of like-minded people making use of the facilities. There are a few unwritten rules to be aware of when you use an aire for the first time; There are lots of apps to help you find free motorhome camping across Europe. Our favourite is Park4Night, which has thousands of aires detailed on their app. The cycle path in Le Touquet goes via the motorhome aire along the coast to the town Western France

No- or at least very very rarely. (Occasionally, it is possible to book online, especially in the mountains in winter if you’re going motorhome skiing.) The whole point of aires is flexibility and freedom. On recognising the distinction between the two and the fact that motorhome owners move on every day or two, the French authorities introduced the Aire system.

Different types of aires

Every aire is different! Some have a full suite of services including electricity and some have very basic offerings, with a few having no motorhome services at all. Salles Curan: A view of Lake Parloup – the largest lake in the Midi-Pyrenees - and sheltered parking makes this the perfect place to relax in hot weather. Lagrasse: A quiet if unremarkable spot next to a stunning, ancient French village – one of theLes Plus Beaux Villages de France. No, not really is the short answer, remember the camping behaviour rule? So, if you want to socialise outside your motorhome until late then this won’t go down well.

Ah- here’s the magic of travelling without a plan. There are a couple of ways to find aires in France, especially as you’re travelling. We never have them planned in advance- we always find them en-route. Can you book Aires in advance? Some are totally free, unless you make use of the facilities. Some cost a couple of Euros and others cost as much as 15€, which I think is the maximum we’ve paid so far. We tend to avoid cities, but I believe aires close to popular locations cost more and are much more crowded. Aires de camping are for the use of motorhomes, campervans and other self-contained motor-caravans such as RV’s or overland vehicles, otherwise known as a camping car in Europe. An ‘aire de service’ is an ‘area of service’ or a service area, normally found on French motorways and often have waste facilities and approved parking bays for motorhomes. Arromanches-les-Bains: Perfectly situated for golden beaches ( Gold Beach in the D-Day landings) and a sweetly bustling seaside town. There are two aires in town, this is the one just north of Camping Municipal.
