About this deal

Holly wands are said to be suited to wizards who need assistance overcoming anger issues, and those engaged in a dangerous and spiritual quest. Harry Potter dealt with overcoming anger in his adolescent years, partially caused by a shared connection with Lord Voldemort through the fragment of soul Voldemort accidentally left inside Harry. He was also prophesied to be the one to kill Voldemort, and engaged in a year-long hunt for Horcruxes in an attempt to fulfil this prophecy. Ollivander also noted that a mix of holly and phoenix feather, if properly matched, would result in a nigh-unstoppable wizard. This was the wand carried by Draco Malfoy throughout his years at Hogwarts. During the Skirmish at Malfoy Manor, Harry disarmed Draco and won the wand from him, and ultimately used it until the end of the Second Wizarding War. Its ultimate fate is unknown. The wand chooses the wizard. That much has always been clear to those of us who have studied wandlore... These connections are complex. An initial attraction, and then a mutual quest for experience, the wand learning from the wizard, the wizard from the wand." — Ollivander explaining wands' connections to wizards [src] However, the belief that the Elder Wand will automatically switch allegiance whenever the owner is disarmed is also false, for one very important reason... The Elder Wand decides its own destiny The wands represent those of nine characters from the Wizarding World franchise and will illuminate a public square in each city, performing a nightly light show to music from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films. The installation will stay in each city for a full week. Here is the full schedule:

The same prior wand design was also used in several of the older video game adaptations, along with the colour of the wand itself varying from game model to artwork established outside of the films. Even less information was given about Dylan Marwood’s wand. We only know that it was made of applewood. I think it's therefore pretty safe to say that JKR at least had an idea of what the wands looked like, even if she didn't necessarily spell it out in the books. And I think that idea is basically a conventional magic wand. Harry Potter tried out several wands in 1991, all made by Ollivander. The first was made of beechwood, 9’’ long, with its core made of dragon heartstring and described as nice and flexible. The second was made of maple, 7’’ long and its core made of phoenix feather. It was described as quite whippy. The four chosen locations - Hull, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and Reading - were voted for by the public and will each host the exciting installation for seven days.

Mr Ollivander’s famous statement ‘the wand chooses the wizard’ rings just as true for the Elder Wand as any other. However, according to J.K. Rowling, there are some distinct tendencies in its manner of choosing: ‘The Elder Wand knows no loyalty except to strength. So it’s completely unsentimental. It will only go where the power is.’ The Wizarding World wand installation, which first appeared in fall 2018 in London to mark the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, will finally hit the road to tour the United Kingdom this spring in celebration of the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The set of nine 15-foot-tall wands will be displayed in four cities that were voted on by the public: Hull, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, and Reading. When Harry entered the Chamber of Secrets and confronted a fragment of Lord Voldemort's soul via his diary Horcrux, the manifested soul took the wand that Harry dropped when he rushed to an unconscious Ginny Weasley, and used it to write his full name in fiery letters and then reorganised them into the phrase "I am Lord Voldemort". Harry reclaimed the wand once he destroyed the diary. [2] During the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry duelled Lord Voldemort for the final time. As the Elder Wand, which Lord Voldemort wielded, was loyal to Harry, the Killing Curse directed at Harry rebounded and killed Lord Voldemort. Harry then used the Elder Wand to successfully repair his original wand and planned to return the Elder Wand to the grave of Albus Dumbledore. [7] Post 1998 [ ]

The Unofficial Ultimate Harry Potter Spellbook is a stunning, tasteful reference that lists all the spells that have been used in the Harry Potter movies, novels, video games, card games, and authorised spinoffs like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. More than 240 spells, charms, curses, hexes, and jinxes are included, in addition to a list of magical items. Harry's wand was well suited to him, in a lot of ways a perfect match. Harry had a notorious temper, that at times made him somewhat terrifying to his friends. He also was shown to be impulsive, making many decisions on the fly. Harry faced a spiritual and dangerous quest when he, Ron, and Hermione went a hunt for Voldemort's Horcruxes. This quest tested his limits and shook the faith he had in himself and those around him, but at the same time made him a stronger individual. In the aftermath of the Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort's return, Harry possessed magical knowledge and experience that could be said to significantly exceed that of his fellow students. [5] He was forced to essentially learn a variety of advanced spells to hold his own during the competition, as he was going up against much older students and facing dangerous tasks. [17] [18] [19] He wielded this wand in many epic conflicts such as that at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, [14] [20] against the Inferi in the Horcrux Cave [21] and during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. [22] A statement from a representative of WarnerMedia UK & Ireland says, “We are delighted that this stunning installation will be touring for the first time next month and the magic will be shared with even more fans. Following a nationwide vote, it’s exciting to know that we’re bringing the wands to the biggest Wizarding World fans across the UK as we celebrate the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore .” With that in mind, consider the Elder Wand’s decisions in the final two books. The stand-off between Draco and Dumbledore was fraught with emotion – Dumbledore knew he was about to die while Draco raged an internal war with his own morality. At Malfoy Manor, Draco was once again conflicted while Harry was determined to escape and finish his quest. In both scenes, emotions ran high and everything was at stake. It was enough to affect the Elder Wand, even when it was not present at the scene.

There have been several misconceptions surrounding its ownership

I don't recall JKR describing the wands in great detail in the books, apart from wandlore descriptions like "made of such-and-such wood" or "inflexible" or "dragon heart string core". Harry wielded this wand throughout his Hogwarts career and demonstrated his growing magical skill, particularly in Defence Against the Dark Arts and duelling. Harry has also performed powerful magic with this wand, such as the very advanced Patronus Charm (at age thirteen), [9] [10] [11] an impressive Shield Charm, [12] [13] [14] [15] and many other advanced spells he had to learn at a young age. Perhaps the most famous fallacy surrounding the Elder Wand is the supposition that the prospective owner must kill the current one. This came at a cost for Lord Voldemort, who falsely assumed that murdering Severus Snape was the key to the wand’s control. Though killing has been a popular method of claiming the wand (see the ‘long and bloody history’ section for examples), it is by no means the only way.

Harry Potter owned several different wands up until the end of the Second Wizarding War, though only his holly and phoenix feather wand was considered truly his. Other wands included:

Holly is one of the rarer kinds of wand woods; traditionally considered protective, it works most happily for those who may need help overcoming a tendency to anger and impetuosity. At the same time, holly wands often choose owners who are engaged in some dangerous and often spiritual quest. [26] Hagrid's wand is disguised as “a battered pink umbrella”. Philosopher's Stone ch. 4 gives that brief description, and together with ch. 5 the books makes it plain that that's where his wand is, though Hagrid is not allowed to admit it. Standing 15 feet tall and set within concrete bases, the nine wands – bringing to life those belonging to some of the favourite characters in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films – will illuminate each evening, performing a light show to the thrilling music from the Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter films.
