About this deal

The NLT Study Bible is a great Bible to help you on your investigative journey. Filled with thousands of study notes, maps, and insightful articles, it helps you take that deeper dive into Scripture. For even more insight, you might want to try a commentary series, like the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary series or the Swindoll’s Living Insights New Testament Commentary series. Honestly, I was a bit put off by the NLT translation at first. The New Living Translation is a free translation, which means it paraphrases the ideas of the author into concepts easily understood in English. The sentence is a whole is used as the unit for translation. This results in a very understandable translation, but it only reproduces the general sense of a sentence, which isn’t my first choice for a study Bible. Change will always be part of our lives, but we can help our loved ones confidently take the next step, knowing they are grounded in the Word of the Lord, which will help establish a firm foundation for exciting adventures to come.

Cross references show the chapter and verse number they correspond to. There are no keys to references in the text so it can be difficult to know which part of a verse the reference is for. Even though that makes them more difficult to use this is the method I prefer because it keeps the text clean. Here are some examples: Some of us have very analytical minds. He gives and restores life (Gen 2:7; Ps 104:24‑30; Ezek 37:1‑14; Joel 2:28‑32; Rom 8:9‑11). He calls and commissions workers for the service of Christ (Acts 13:2; 20:28) and guides God’s servants where and when he wants, to do as he desires (8:29; 9:15; 10:19‑20; 11:12; 16:6; 1 Cor 2:13; 1 Pet 1:12). He inspired the writing of Scripture (2 Tim 3:16‑17; 2 Pet 1:20‑21), instructing the church in Christ’s message (John 14:26; 1 Cor 12:3). He bears witness to the power of the Good News in signs and wonders (Acts 14:3; Heb 2:4), and teaches the truths of the Bible to God’s people (Acts 1:16; Heb 9:8; 10:15‑17; 1 Pet 1:11‑12). He bears witness to Jesus and brings him glory (John 15:26; 16:14). He convicts people of their sinfulness and need for the Good News (John 16:8) and warns people against hardening their hearts (Heb 3:7‑11, 15). He bestows gifts upon God’s people (1 Cor 12:4‑11), and he energizes and equips them to share the Good News, serve the Lord, and work for the Kingdom of God. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. 7She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.” Luke 2: 6-7, NLT

This is a perfect Bible for the booklover—or for anyone who wants to read deeply and bask in the story of God’s love for us! One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.(This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe)These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, ‘Not one of his bones will be […] Taken from the Illustrated Study Bible Samuel lived at the end of the period of the judges and ushered in the period of kingship. He was Israel’s last judge (1 Sam 7:6, 15‑17) and first prophet (3:20; Acts 3:24; 13:20). He functioned as a priest (1 Sam 2:18) and was a great man of faith […]However, as I got over my initial hesitancy, I actually grew to like the NLT version. Reading a familiar passage in a different translation forces me to think about the concepts in a new way. It jerks me to attention when my mind would otherwise go into autopilot mode. True, I still wouldn’t use the NLT for a close reading of a passage, but the very purpose of the NLT Illustrated Study Bible is to help readers see the Bible in a whole new way, and the translation they chose helps accomplish this very goal. Conclusion The Inspire Bible collection was created for those who enjoy worshiping through the visual arts. It has hundreds of Scripture-based line-art drawings to color as well as roomy 2.25-inch-wide margins for taking notes or creating your own unique art.

It’s hard to picture a world that’s so different from ours, and some of the stories and metaphors simply don’t make sense to 21st-century Westerners. God created us all unique. He intentionally made us to be different. But what we all have in common is that we are created in God’s image and made to yearn for a relationship with him. God gave us his Word to help us draw closer to him, understand who he is, and discover our role in his story of redemption. How we each engage with God’s Word is just as unique as how he made us! I love references and maps in the book. It loaded with information about the subjects that many Christians have questions about. I am not suggesting that the people responsible for the NLT Study Bible/Illustrated Study Bible are narrow-minded or even necessarily Fundamentalists. But the commentary does reflect a more-or-less Fundamentalist approach to biblical interpretation. Some will find this comforting. I find it a slight disappointment because study Bibles are the most common Bible reference tool used today, so they are an opportunity for the scholars involved in producing them to teach the multitudes responsible and healthy biblical interpretation. I just feel that in some ways the NLT Study Bible is a missed opportunity.Over the past few years study Bibles have been getting larger and more colorful. The information they contain is getting more detailed and their graphics are more prominent. Tyndale joins in with their very own full-color edition – the NLT Illustrated Study Bible. In this review I take a look at the hard cover edition. Features Change will always be part of our lives, but we can help our loved ones confidently take this next step, knowing they are grounded in the word of the Lord, which will help establish a firm foundation for the exciting adventures to come. The study notes appear under the text in three columns. They give the chapter and verse number in bold and the portion of text they correspond to in italics. They include explanations and cross references. When doctrine is discussed and there is more than one possible explanation all of those explanations are given. I prefer this because it gives you points to study rather than only showing one view. Footnotes are placed just under the text and show the chapter and verse number. They include textual variants with the manuscript identified, weights and measures, verse number differences in Hebrew, Hebrew and Greek explanations, alternate renderings, where verses are quoted from, meanings of names, and cultural or historical information about places, things, and people, and more.
