In SLEEP or night mode, the humidity is set to 50% and the fan runs at low speed. If the actual humidity in the room exceeds 50% humidity by more than 5%, the unit’s compressor is activated and the fan runs at low speed. Conversely, if the actual humidity of the room is less than 5% or less than 50% humidity, the compressor is switched off, as well as the fan. In addition, in this mode you can turn off the LED display lights.

It is equipped with a washable filter that not only prevents dust from entering the fan but, in combination with the ventilation function, helps to keep the air clean and fresh, which is perfect if you suffer from allergies at home or simply want to get rid of bad smells or dust. It's fair to say that most dehumidifiers aren't the most stylish of appliances, which is why the De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry Multi Dehumidifier is something of a breath of fresh air amidst the usual boxy white plastic designs. If you have more serious damp issues, then although a dehumidifier can help to reduce the problem and improve the air quality in your home, it won't prevent the damp from occurring in the first place, so it's important to get to the root of the issue. Read our guide to how to get rid of damp for help in identifying the cause of your damp issues, and how to treat them. The Pro Breeze PB-02 is a basic dehumidifier with a low extraction rate and small water tank. It’s not designed for removing moisture from large areas and is nowhere near as effective as a compressor or desiccant model.Large Water Tank: Features a large 2-litre water tank and a hose for continuous drainage, allowing you to run the dehumidifier for long periods of time without emptying the tank. The MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier's build quality feels solid and durable, and its curved body is a clever touch that makes the appliance look smaller than its H47 x W32 x D24cm measurements. The 12L modeal also fits a generous 2.5 litre water tank into its compact build. Fan speeds: Some dehumidifiers have just one speed for continuous drying, limiting your control. Whilst others have up to three, which is advantageous if you want to adjust it for faster drying or put it on a lower (and possibly quieter) setting. However, it's not perfect. A powerful extraction rate of 20L, plus that Laundry boost mode, means higher running costs. This dehumidifier guzzles 440W of energy compared to the 20L MeacoDry Arete One's 216W. What the Pro Breeze 20L Premium does offer is a more generous water tank of 5.5L compared to the 20L MeacoDry Arete One's 4.8L, although in practice we didn't find ourselves emptying the MeacoDry that much more frequently. I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all.

If you’re looking for a compact and cheap dehumidifier, the Pro Breeze PB-02 500ml dehumidifier is one of the most popular options. It’s less than half the price of even the cheapest compressor models, has a highly portable design and is built with energy-efficient peltier technology. This isn't the highest performing dehumidifier on our list, as it is best used for smaller homes, with the ability to dehumidify up to 2 bedrooms, or up to 40 square meters. However, that doesn't make it any less useful than any of the other models. In fact, this dehumidifier has a few features that may place it ahead of the competition. One of these extremely useful features is Laundry Mode, which is perfect for use in a room where wet laundry is hung out to dry. Just select the mode, and it will run for 6 hours at full speed and then automatically turn off afterwards. When it is finished, you should find your laundry completely dry. The advantages of this type of dehumidifier are that they tend to be larger, more energy efficient and much more widely available. The problem is that they don’t work well in lower temperatures as the coils need to be colder than the room, or they start to freeze. Once that happens, a compressor dehumidifier focuses on de-frosting itself over reducing humidity, so they aren’t a great option for garages or cellars. They also tend to be much noisier, and depending on your noise-level preference, this can irritate people. Should you leave a dehumidifier on all the time?

How much does a dehumidifier cost to run?

This Pro Breeze dehumidifier is capable of extracting up to 12 litres of water per day, and stores it in a 2-litre water tank (larger than the previous version), which is easy to remove and empty. Running costs vary depending on the size, make and model of dehumidifier you opt for, but the MeacoDry Arete One 12L dehumidifier uses a relatively low 151 Watts of electricity. At current prices that's an approximate running cost of just 4p per hour. Pro Breeze 12L/Day offers 3 different modes: automatic, continuous and night or ‘Sleep’ and 2 different fan speeds: low and high. It also has an automatic shut-off function when the tank is full. This is a standard feature on modern dehumidifiers, but we were pleased to see it included in this low budget model. Costs as little as 5p /hour to run: Our energy-efficient dehumidifier has been designed to automatically shut off once it has reached your desired humidity level.

There are a few key things you need to consider when shopping for a dehumidifier, and various features you need to weigh up the importance of in terms of quality. Here are the sort of things you should be looking at when considering the best dehumidifier for your needs:Beyond that, maintenance is minimal for this machine. Because it’s white, it will show any dust that gathers on it, so it’s worth keeping the exterior clean just by wiping it down with a damp cloth occasionally. Plus, the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier'sSmart Laundrymodeworks brilliantly for drying washing indoors – wet laundry was dry in hours rather than the days it can usually take in the draughty Victorian terrace we tested the unit in. side from being cheap and quiet, peltier technology uses much less energy than a compressor or desiccant alternative. This 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier collects up to 12 litres of moisture per day – perfectly No, it does not. This Pro Breeze dehumidifier has a removable filter that simply prevents dust from entering the unit and is therefore only for cleaning purposes.

If you want a dehumidifier of a similar power and price point, the slightly more expensive ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier remains our best budget buy, offering a better extraction rate of 0.5L and a larger 1.5L water tank, which means you won’t be emptying it quite so frequently. That said, the ProBreeze 1500ml Mini Dehumidifier is also larger in size, measuring H30 x W22 x D16cm compared to the Russell Hobbs' H22 x W14 x D14cm frame. And, the ProBreeze 1500ml is twice the weight, weighing in at 1.85kg. EFFICENT MOISTURE REMOVAL: This Pro Breeze dehumidifier efficiently removes damp, mould and moisture in your home, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, caravan, garage, basement or wardrobes. This energy efficient dehumidifier has a running cost as low as 1p per hour (November 2022). The dehumidifier is equipped with a highly accurate automatic humidity sensor that displays the current humidity level on the LED display and an indicator light on the front that shows the current air humidity. The indicator light turns RED when the humidity is above 65%, GREEN when it is between 45% and 65% and BLUE when it is below 45%. In fact, this is the quietest compressor dehumidifier I've tested, far outperforming any of the other models we've tested on this front. Compressor dehumidifiers tend to be the most common design available in the UK. They work by drawing air into the dehumidifier via a fan, and then running the air over over cold coils to condense the moisture from it, whereby the condensed water is collected in a water tank. The coils are kept cool by refrigerant which means the unit also needs a compressor built in. The only downside of compressor dehumidifiers is that they need the air to be warm for this process to work. Most will work above 5°C, but they're most efficient at an ambient temperature of around 20°C (depending on the individual model).Extraction amount: It is essential to consider the maximum amount of moisture your dehumidifier can extract daily. It can range from anywhere from 500ml to upwards of 30 litres. Small units are fine for occasional use or a small area, such as a cupboard or study. Around 12 litres is suitable for a small flat, medium-sized room or a mild damp problem. Up to 16 litres is best for a larger room or one used regularly for washing or cooking, and units with a capacity of up to 20/30 litres can be used to dehumidify whole homes. There are also hidden castors on the base of the dehumidifier, so rolling the unit from room to room is also an option. I found it rolled well on both hard floor and carpet, unlike many other dehumidifiers of this weight that struggled on carpet. Maintenance It's also worth considering noise levels and energy consumption before you invest in a dehumidifier. What's the quietest dehumidifier? The only downsides for me are that there is no timer, and this dehumidifier doesn't have any Wi-Fi compatibility, which is a bit of a shame because I’d love to have been able to operate it remotely via an App. But, considering this dehumidifier does such a stellar job, these few points are very easy to overlook. SMALL & COMPACT: Pro Breeze dehumidifiers for home are lightweight, compact and portable. Unlike cheaper moisture absorber bags, this dehumidifier is capable of removing up to 250ml of moisture per day and has a 500ml water tank capacity.
