About this deal

The battery inside a solar light can last for years, depending on usage and the quality of the battery – so it is worth buying the best quality solar lights you can, especially if you’re installing permanent solar lighting such as wall lights, bollard lights, or lanterns. Installing solar lights is a relatively easy and straightforward process that can be done without the need for special tools or electrical wiring. However, the installation process may vary depending on the type and style of solar light, and you should refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions for specific guidance. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your solar lights can help extend their lifespan and ensure they continue to provide effective and efficient lighting for your outdoor space. Follow these tips, and refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations so that you can enjoy the benefits of solar-powered lighting for many years.

Additionally, most solar lights are designed to be weather-resistant and may not be suitable for use in indoor environments, which can have different temperature and humidity levels. The exposure to these conditions may cause damage to the light fixture or the battery, affecting the performance and lifespan of the solar light. Solar-powered lights with motion sensors allow you to add lighting when and where you need it. The Linkind StarRay LED Solar Motion Sensor Landscape Spotlights have two modes to suit your needs. You can choose to have them turn on for 25 seconds when motion is detected or to operate constantly at half light and only brighten for 10 seconds when motion is detected. (We noted that on the second mode, the difference between half-light and full-light was hardly detectable, although both modes are bright enough that we could read under them.) Although they are powered during the day, these lights do not automatically turn on at dusk unless you select one of those modes. We loved the “moody lighting” these lights emitted but noted they were bright enough to read by only when the lights were gathered together and not strung out. Also, these did not stay lit as long as the others we tested (6 hours total). If you are mostly using them for decor or entertaining purposes, this shouldn’t be an issue. And although you can’t connect multiple strands together (as we hoped!), there is a 48-foot strand available if you have the space. Before selecting your lights, Sheva Knopfler, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Lights.com, a well-known online retailer of all kinds of lights and lightbulbs, recommends asking yourself: "How much brightness do you need? Does the light need to be direct or spread out? The height of your solar lights is also important. Will they be a tripping hazard? Are you able to install them into your pavement or garden?"To help you find the best option for all of your outdoor spaces, we tested 27 different solar lights at The Lab in Des Moines, Iowa, including path lights, spotlights, lanterns, wall-mounted, and string lights. Each light was evaluated for its ease of assembly, brightness, features, design, value, and durability. For example, after assembly, we froze them and dropped golf balls on their solar panels to see how they would withstand the elements, and read under them to test their brightness. We even video-recorded them overnight to make sure they truly stayed on from dusk until dawn! We also tested and installed 18 wall-mounted lights on our own homes, and recorded their brightness and durability through changing weather conditions.

There are some solar lights that are specifically designed for use in coastal areas, and have a higher level of protection against the corrosive effects of saltwater and other environmental factors. These lights typically have a marine-grade finish and are made from materials such as stainless steel or aluminium that are more resistant to rust and corrosion. In general, the batteries in solar lights last between 1-2 years with continual use, and the LED bulbs can last more than 10 years, depending on the quality and usage. However, if the solar light is exposed to extreme weather conditions, such as excessive heat or cold, or if the battery is not maintained properly, the lifespan may be shortened. You may need a little patience in the beginning. But just at the start. When you first use your solar light, the battery needs to fully charge for two days, or up to ten days when the weather is poor or overcast. You just have to be patient! This ensures that the device and its technology can provide the maximum battery power.

Apart from their primary function, coach lights can also serve as porch lights. They are commonly installed on at least one side, if not both sides, of the main front entrance. By doing so, they contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the building while providing practical illumination. To extend the lifespan of your solar lights, always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions for proper use and maintenance. This usually includes things like regularly cleaning the solar panel to ensure it receives maximum sunlight, replacing the battery when it begins to lose its capacity, and storing the lights in a cool, dry place during the off-season. In addition to choosing the right solar lights, if you’re in a coastal area, it is also important to regularly clean and maintain them to prevent the build-up of salt and other corrosive materials. Regular cleaning can help extend the lifespan of the light fixtures and ensure that they continue to provide effective and efficient lighting for your outdoor space. We were impressed at how these lights held up during our durability tests. Since the manufacturer claims these lights have the highest waterproof rating and are frost-resistant, we sprinkled water on them, and then froze them for over an hour. After each test, the lights still worked just as well as before! We also dropped a golf ball on their solar light panel from a distance of 6 feet, and they still held up. After putting them together, we let all the lights charge in full sunlight for the time specified in their instructions. We then took each to a dark room to run through all of their features, including any motion sensors and lighting modes and noted how easy it was to cycle through those. (If the lights didn't turn on automatically, we searched for an accessible and functioning on/off switch.) For lights with motion sensors, we exited the room, waited 2 minutes, then re-entered, and we noted whether the lights turned on without any prompting. Then, we evaluated each light's brightness by attempting to read a book under it.If the solar light is not holding a charge or is not as bright as it used to be, the battery may need to be replaced. Refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations for the type of battery to use and how to replace it.

If your solar lights are not working properly, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue and get them working again: Outdoor solar lights fall into three general types based on their light output: motion-activated, dusk-to-dawn, and timer-controlled. Because of solar cell size and battery capacity, the gathered solar energy is a limited resource, so consider when you want the lights to shine and for how long. Timer-controlled solar lights give you the most control since you can specify the time they turn on and for how long. Solar-powered string lights such as fairy lights and festoons can be used to create a festive and decorative atmosphere for outdoor parties or events. While solar lights are not recommended for long term indoor use, there are some solar-powered indoor lights available that can provide energy efficient lighting for specific applications.Assemble the light: Assemble the solar light according to the manufacturer’s instructions, which may involve attaching the solar panel, battery, and light fixture together. We noted that the only feature, aside from its solar capabilities, is an on/off switch. Our lab testing also revealed some conflicting results. On the one hand, the frosted glass shattered during our golf ball test; on the other, the solar panels still worked. The manufacturer claims the product is weatherproof and wasn’t damaged when we poured water directly above it in the lab. We also haven't noticed any issues with the light being damaged by storms so far in our real-world testing. Pathway lights are small, low-level lights designed to line walkways or driveways, providing safety and visibility.
