Description

Sewing professionals use it to get beautiful designs printed on the cloth. Suppose you want to get an image of your friends stitched on your t-shirt. A: Absolutely. Patti Lee has been using these Solvy products for 30+ years in septic systems without any problems. Plus, she has never had a single complaint of any issue from a consumer. Q: When would I use the film-type (Ultra Solvy) vs. the fabric type (Fabri-Solvy), and why?

A: For computerized embroidery, it’s good to use what the designer suggests. If there is no recommendation, then use Sulky Fabri-Solvy in two layers for most projects. Q: When wouldn’t I use water-soluble stabilizer? I use this on everything I embroider. EVERYTHING. But it’s especially useful on problem fabrics. You know what I’m talking about – the ones that are really hard to transfer an image to. Step 5: You will find that the sulky bits are becoming gummy, and it starts floating to the top. The pen used to draw the sketches is soluble, so all the ink will disappear when you keep it in water. Step 15: Take the design out from the embroidery hoop as you complete the entire thing. Cut around the picture in the same pattern as the design. While stitching, you have to stitch both, and afterward, when it’s done, you can place it in water. Many people commit the mistake of stitching the fabric only. But it would help if you did both, so the design comes out properly.

So we’ll skip forward to after the stitching is all done so you can see how this stuff actually dissolves… Patti Lee, VP of Consumer Relations at Sulky of America, answers your questions all day, every day. She’s a true expert on Sulky products, so we asked Patti to share the 10 most common questions she receives about Sulky water-soluble stabilizers, including Solvy®, Super Solvy™, Ultra Solvy™ and Fabri-Solvy™. Here are the top 10 water-soluble stabilizer questions answered. Q: Why should I use a water-soluble stabilizer and where? This means that you can print a pattern directly onto it using a laser or ink-jet printer, trace or draw a pattern directly on it with a pencil or fabric pen/pencil, or use it as-is to stabilize your fabric while you’re stitching! Basically, it’s an embroiderer’s best friend.

The fabric-like stabilizer provides a supple feel of fabric with the easy removability of a water soluble stabilizer. A: When water removal is not an option. Or you can’t just pull away a lightweight water-soluble stabilizer, like Solvy or Super Solvy then your option would be Sulky Heat-Away Clear Film. Or you can toss the project in the dryer for a few minutes (heat dissipates KK 2000 immediately). Q: Are water-soluble stabilizers safe for septic tanks and plumbing? TheMagical Embroidery Stuff! This amazing invention has made every part of my crafting life easier and more fun. (I wrote a whole post about its awesomeness here.)Step 3: It is the easiest method for relatively simple and small patterns. While doing so, you must ensure to print the pattern on the stabilizer side and not on the other side. As you can see in this sketch, its not something you would want to hand draw on to fabric – it would be very difficult to get accurate.

Step 6: Some people freak out when they see the pen color but don’t worry, it won’t be there on your final product. Step 1: Here, you have to use small scraps of sulky on the project you wish to work on. Now you have to draw the pattern by keeping the piece of cloth over it. For standard machine stitching (free-motion or machine-fed), by far the most popular projects are scarves. By sandwiching lots of threads, yarns or ribbons between layers of Solvy and stitching over them, you can create the most amazing scarves. Also, when you get the pattern printed on the stabilizer, it may not look great, following which you cannot do the stitching properly. Solvy heavier weights uses are described below. Q: What’s the most popular project for a water-soluble stabilizer?

I freehand all my quilting designs – but if I did anything fancy I would print or draw it on this and stitch through it, then soak it away later.

Step 9: As you complete, take the piece of cloth to place the design. The best part to place the pattern is where the color has faded or the print has come out.Step 4: Another method is to get the pattern printed on the stabilizer, and it fits perfectly on the ink-jet printer. If you have a long piece, you must cut it into the required size. A: Sometimes you just want to “paint” it onto a project: Dissolve one yard of Solvy (36 x 20 inches) or 1/2 yard of Super Solvy (18 x 20 inches) in 8 oz. of water. Brush liquid Solvy onto flimsy or sheer fabrics that are to be stitched. Do not use it on non-washable fabrics like velvet or silk. Step 10: Take the embroidery hoop, and after that, you must place a cloth in it. Make sure you do not pull the fabric in the hoop too tight. It’s because the fabric will come out when you want to separate the hoop.
